Week 8, Term 3
PRINCIPAL’S PĀNUI
I’ll keep this brief as there is plenty shared in our pānui to keep you up to date with all the fantastic things happening at Pembroke School and the exciting events still to come this term!
Firstly, I’d like to congratulate the Rimu Class parents for organising an amazing and successful Show and Shine event on Sunday. You have so much to be proud of! Not only have you worked hard to fundraise for the Rimu Camp to Wellington, but you've also brought our school and the wider Stratford community together through two incredible events. Your initiative, enthusiasm, dedication, and teamwork are inspiring. Our mission statement, "Succeeding Together," has truly been lived out, showing what we can achieve when we work together with our tamariki as our inspiration. Thank you all so much—your efforts are greatly appreciated!
Let’s keep the momentum going with our upcoming Action Day and School Gala. Time and again, we’ve proven what a wonderful school community Pembroke is and the amazing things we can achieve when we come together for our kids! This is fantastic role modelling for our tamariki, demonstrating the community spirit we value and reflecting the kind of future we want for them—a caring, supportive community that comes together for the good of all!

SPEECH AND POETRY PRESENTATIONS
Our tamariki have been working very hard on their speech and poetry presentations. Our Year 1-4 students learn and present a speech to their class and our Year 5-8 students prepare a speech. This years topic is 'Where would we be without...' The top three finalists from each year group go through to our school finals this coming Friday 13th Sept. We will notify parents on Wednesday in regards to the finalists. We are very impressed by the level of confidence our tamariki are developing year on year as they participate in this event and the high level of support they extend to their peers. This is a really important life skill to develop and we are impressed by their attitude and effort. Thank you to all the whanau who have taken the time to help their child reherse and prepare for this event. Winners from Year 7-8 will go on to present their speeches at the Toko Lion's Speech Competition.
Welcome Miss Caryl Anne Davies
You are likely to have read through our school Facebook Page that we have appointed Miss Davies into the position of teacher for Kowhai Class. She has started this week, right bang smack in the middle of speeches and taken it all in her stride. She is looking forward to getting to know our students and families so make sure you say "Hi!".
You may have noticed a familiar face around, Miss Jury has been in relieving and providing release for teachers. It has been lovely to have her back around Pembroke, connecting with students she knows and meeting new ones.

EPRO8 CHALLENGE
We had two teams, one Year 5-6 Team and one Year 7-8 Team compete at the EPRO8 Events in Week 6 hosted at SPS.
"The EPro8 Challenge is the inter-school science and engineering competition. Every year over 25,000 students from throughout New Zealand take part.
Students participate in a series of events: firstly within their school and then inter-school.
These events are designed to promote science, engineering and problem solving."
In 2023 we were very fortunate to receive a generous donation of an Epro8 Electronics Kit to help our students train for the EPRO8 Challenge.
Our Year 7-8 Team: Cooper, Keira, Lawson and Izzy placed first at SPS and went on to the regional event at Sacred Heart. They worked incredibly well as a team under intense conditions and prolonged concentration and focus. They placed 9th at the regional event. We are very proud of their efforts.
New Carpet and Up Coming Projects
Wow our classrooms are looking amazing! We have been very fortunate to get new carpet through our classrooms as part of a scheme designed to support Small and Rural Schools receive much needed upgrades. This has helped finish off an amazing year of development in our classroom spaces, which are all now practically brand new, lovely modern learning spaces and something we can be very proud of. As we move forward the plan is to continue to upgrade the furniture. We would appreciate you helping to support the message at home that furniture and belongings need to be taken care of. If we are to enjoy our new furnishings and equipment for many years to come then it needs to be taken care of and valued. Unfortunately there have been instances of this not happening which is disappointing as we have worked very hard to provide an amazing environment for all our tamariki to enjoy and have more plans in the future to continue the great work we have done, it will take a team effort to ensure that it can be enjoyed by years of children to come. Thank you to staff and students for your patience and adaptability while the carpet was being installed. Our next projects are the Junior Play Space, Bathroom Modification - which involves upgraded toilet facilities, a universal bathroom and a seperate first aide room closer to the office, and fencing of the school. Your help on the up coming Action Day will help get our outside areas looking good and our gardens top notch. We have some neat plans moving forward for our enviro area and education! A very lovely neighbour has been helping out putting in many long hours to help get this area looking amazing!
2024 PEMBROKE SCHOOL PRODUCTION
We had lots of rounds of applause this week as students learnt what roles they will be playing in this years school production and rehersals have commenced. It is sure to be another great, high quality performance. We have a great bunch of talented and enthusiastic students and a really neat script so make sure you let your friends and whanau know to save the date! We are grateful to the Stratford Council for their Creatives Grant which allows us to hold our production at the TET Theatre.
Happiness Highlights
The sun came out for our postponement date for cross country and boy are we glad it did. Eltham were unable to join us on the new date but we had a great time hosting Avon School, showing them the fun we get up to at our cross country day and building some new connections for our tamariki to take with them out in to the community. There was some great running on the day as well with some people surprising themselves with how well they preformed and all the children giving it their all when they needed to.
Our senior class hosted their Show and Shine day on Sunday and it was a great success. Wonderful to see all the cars lined up down the road waiting to come in and to see so many of our school families attending on the day and supporting their senior friends. That is the final fundraising project for our seniors before they head off to camp in week 10 and we would like to offer a huge thank you to the Pembroke School community for all the support you have shown us with our endeavours, it is so appreciated!

Thank You Sport Taranaki - Tu Manawa Fund
You may have heard that we have been working towards developing a junior play area out the side of Rata Class and this project is getting closer to starting thanks to some amazing grants from Sport Taranaki and TET. This will be a turfed and fenced area. TET are funding the Turf and the Tu Manawa Fund from Sport Taranaki will fund the physical and social play equipment that will be part of this area. We are just waiting to finalise the fencing and then we will be all go to set up this area. It will be a great addition to our junior classes providing tamariki with rich play opportunities that will help with: transitions to school from ECE, social play promoting speech language and social skills, a play to help regulate emotions and reduce sensory overload and improve engagement in learning. We can't wait!
