Noon Message to CHISD Families
May 6, 2024
Cedar Hill ISD Families & Community,
Dear CHISD Families,
It’s an exciting day to be a Longhorn! Unofficial election results from last night show that voters approved our two bond propositions by a nearly 2-to-1 margin. I am so grateful for our community’s continued support of Cedar Hill ISD! After two previous unsuccessful attempts, we are so excited to begin the next phases of these projects. This is the first Bond passed in Cedar Hill ISD since 2012.
The bond projects will allow us to provide district wide capital improvements and the purchase of technology devices for students and staff.
An overview of the election results show:
Proposition A
Votes FOR: 2,272 (64.20%)
Votes AGAINST: 1,267 (35.80%)
Proposition B
Votes FOR: 2,199 (62.12%)
Votes AGAINST: 1,341 (37.88%)
To view more project details, please visit our website at www.chisd.net. As projects get underway, we will share updates directly with parents, staff and community members. Our regular newsletters, The Cedar Hill ISD Web site, School Board meetings and community meetings will be among the many channels of communication we will use to bring you bond-related updates.
We also extend our congratulations to new Cedar Hill ISD Trustees Ayanna Cabrera-Cook (Place 6) and Dr. Lester Singleton (Place 7). Unofficial results show that Cabrera-Cook was elected with 53.08 percent of the vote and, Singleton, with 64.63 percent of the vote.
Thank you for your support!
Dr. Gerald B. Hudson
Superintendent
Cedar Hill ISD
If your student is enrolled in CHISD on the last day of school in 2023 (May 26, 2023), then your student is categorized as a returning student. If your student attended CHISD during the 2021-2022 or any previous school year but transferred to another school outside of CHISD, they are new to the district.
Honoring Our Incredible Educators: Teacher Appreciation Week
As we enter the month of May, we have a special opportunity to express our gratitude and appreciation for the dedicated educators who play a vital role in shaping the lives of our children. Teacher Appreciation Week, celebrated from Monday, May 6, 2024 – Friday, May 10, 2024, provides us with a chance to honor and recognize the tireless efforts and unwavering commitment of our teachers.
Here are some ways we can show our appreciation for our incredible educators during Teacher Appreciation Week:
Send Thank You Notes: Encourage your child to write a heartfelt thank you note or create a handmade card for their teachers expressing their appreciation for all that they do. A simple gesture of gratitude can brighten a teacher's day and remind them of the impact they have on their students' lives.
Donate Supplies: Consider donating classroom supplies or materials to help support your child's teacher and enhance the learning environment for all students. Whether it's books, art supplies, or classroom decorations, every contribution makes a difference.
Volunteer Your Time: Offer to volunteer your time to assist with classroom activities, special projects, or school events during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your support and involvement demonstrate your commitment to your child's education and strengthen the sense of community within our school.
Coordinate Group Gifts: Coordinate with other parents/guardians to organize a group gift or token of appreciation for your child's teacher. Whether it's a gift card, a bouquet of flowers, or a personalized gift basket, a collective expression of gratitude can have a powerful impact.
Share Words of Appreciation: Take a moment to personally thank your child's teachers for their hard work, dedication, and passion for teaching. A kind word of appreciation goes a long way in recognizing the important role that teachers play in shaping the future generation.
Participate in School Events: Attend school-sponsored events and activities organized in honor of Teacher Appreciation Week. These events provide an opportunity for our school community to come together and celebrate the incredible educators who make a difference in the lives of our children every day.
Let's come together as a school community to celebrate and honor our amazing educators during Teacher Appreciation Week. Your support and recognition mean the world to our teachers and inspire them to continue making a positive impact on the lives of our students.
Thank you for joining us in recognizing the hard work, dedication, and passion of our teachers. Together, we can show our appreciation and gratitude for the invaluable contributions they make to our children's education.
SCHOOL NURSES DAY!
Since 1972, National School Nurse Day has been set aside to recognize school nurses.
National School Nurse Day was established to foster a better understanding of the role of school nurses in the educational setting.
School Nurse Day is celebrated on the Wednesday within National Nurses Week. National Nurses Week is May 6-12 each year.
School Lunch Hero Day!
On the first Friday in May, we celebrate School Lunch Hero Day! In 2024, this special day of celebration was on May 3, 2024. Friday, we recognized school nutrition professionals and the difference they make every day!
Between preparing healthy meals for our Scholars, adhering to strict nutrition standards, navigating student food allergies, and offering service with a smile, school nutrition professionals are true heroes.
School Lunch Hero Day provides the perfect opportunity to recognize the hard working professionals in your school cafeterias.
Money Management Matters!
Financial literacy is universally essential for all students, regardless of their background or future career path. It equips them with the knowledge and skills necessary to navigate the complexities of personal finance, make informed decisions, and achieve financial security.
Students can better manage their money, avoid common financial pitfalls, and plan for long-term goals, ultimately setting a foundation for a more prosperous and independent future. It also fosters responsible financial behaviors and helps students contribute positively to their communities and the broader economy.
Please join us tomorrow night for our DPU on Money Management.
'Senior Assassin’ TikTok Challenge
Law enforcement and educators nationwide are warning parents and communities about the social media challenge “Senior Assassin.” High school students use water guns to “hit” their targets while running through their neighborhoods, which all sounds pretty innocent, right?
Well, some have taken the challenge to the extreme, wearing dark clothing and using airsoft and paintball guns that look like real firearms, then uploading their “hits” to social media. Incidents have recently been reported in Michigan, Florida, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.
In Cheboygan County, Michigan, a player wearing a ski mask ran through a restaurant chasing an opponent and came face to face with an adult who was a licensed concealed handgun carrier.
“This could get someone hurt or killed,” Cheboygan County Sheriff Tim Cook said in a joint warning with Chief Rifenberg. “If another individual believes a person’s life is being threatened and takes action on their own believing they are witnessing some sort of assault with a deadly weapon, as some of these toy guns have the appearance of a real firearm.”
Authorities say the game is being played in neighborhoods, in and around towns and businesses, and moving vehicles. It’s critical to talk to your students about this social media trend and help them understand this message from Virginia school leaders: “In stressful or high-pressure situations, it can be very difficult to quickly differentiate a toy gun from a real firearm. This confusion can lead to misidentification and potentially tragic consequences.”
