December At A Glance
Winter Break 12/23/24-1/13/25
Finals will be held on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, December 18-20, 2024. All teachers are asked to respect the integrity of the testing time, and refrain from engaging students in any activity that could be distracting to teachers and students in neighboring rooms. Also, please help us take care of our classroom spaces by not allowing food to be brought into your classrooms during this period.
*Please encourage students to attend class for the entire duration of finals, especially when phone calls to classrooms can be particularly disruptive. Please encourage students to wait until break to leave school. Encouraging consistency in attendance not only helps students maintain focus, but also fosters a respectful learning environment for everyone.
PARKING PERMITS ARE NOW REQURED FOR ALL VHS STUDENTS IN PARKING LOT!
To increase safety measures at Vasquez High School, we will be strictly enforcing parking permits starting January 17th. Parking a motor vehicle at VHS is a privilege, and as such, certain expectations must be followed by each student driver. A Parking Permit must be obtained through the front office and displayed in the vehicle window.
Any vehicle without a parking permit visible will be subject to disciplinary consequences assigned by VHS administration. If a vehicle does not have a parking permit, the parent/guardian will be contacted immediately to make arrangements for after-school pick-up. Please ensure that all parking rules are followed to avoid any inconvenience.
We are excited to announce that VHS is now offering after-school tutoring to support students in their academic success. This tutoring service will be available to all students who may need extra help with their coursework. Tutoring sessions will take place Monday - Thursday at VHS. Our dedicated team of teachers will be available to assist with a wide range of subjects and provide support to help students reach their full potential. We encourage students to take advantage of this valuable opportunity!
If you have any questions or need more information, please ask the VHS front office staff!
Tutoring: Subjects/Date/Time/Location
Dear Mustang Families,
To ensure that our students receive maximum academic time during class and minimize disruptions, we will be limiting phone calls to classrooms during school hours. For items that are not related to class subjects, we kindly ask that students wait until passing periods, breaks, or lunch to retrieve any dropped-off items. To further minimize interruptions during instructional time, we will not be calling into classrooms to notify students or teachers about dropped-off items. Please make arrangements with your student prior to the school day, or encourage them to check in at the office during their breaks.
We appreciate your understanding and support in creating a focused learning environment for all students.
Thank you for your cooperation!
Sincerely,
The VHS Staff

VHS MORNING DROP-OFF
To help streamline drop-off and minimize traffic congestion around our school, we want to remind everyone that our campus opens at 7:15 AM, Monday through Friday. We encourage you to take advantage of this early access, as it allows for a smoother and safer drop-off experience. By arriving early, you can avoid peak traffic times and ensure that your students can get to class on time. We appreciate your cooperation in helping us maintain a safe and efficient environment for all our students. Thank you for your support!
ATTENDANCE MATTERS - BE ON TIME!
Here’s how the Tardy policy will work:
Tardies Will Be Counted Per Period: Each tardy will be recorded individually for each class period. This means that students can accumulate up to 6 tardies in a single day if they are late to all their periods.
Consequences for Tardies: For every 3 tardies accumulated in a day, students will receive one lunch detention. If a student accumulates 4 or more tardies may result in an After School Detention.
What You Can Do:
Encourage Timeliness: Please remind your child of the importance of arriving to class on time and the impact their punctuality has on their learning and the learning environment for others.
Monitor Attendance: Check in with your child about their class attendance and punctuality to ensure they are aware of how many tardies they have accrued.
We appreciate your support in reinforcing these expectations with your child.

Spring dual enrollment opportunity available through Antelope Valley College
What is Dual Enrollment?
Dual enrollment – also known as concurrent enrollment – enables high school students to take college courses, taught by college professors, at their high school campus or online. These courses can also count toward your high school diploma, allowing students to get a head start on their higher education goals.
Through our District’s partnership with Antelope Valley College we are able to offer 9-12th grade students dual enrollment opportunities on our campus or remotely online.
We have two asynchronous music courses to offer during the Spring semester.
Music 103 - The History of Rock and Roll and Music 108 - The History of Hip Hop
If you are interested in taking a course, please use the links provided in the email sent from the counseling department. Please sign up by Friday December 20th. The counseling team will send out more information via email regarding the necessary enrollment steps.
