Roots & Wings
Full Week Faith Development for All Ages, January 15
Dear Families,
On January 5th, we held a parents and caregivers meeting to discuss Children’s Faith Development. A heartfelt thank you to those who were able to attend. We spent time reviewing the Sunday morning schedule, laying the groundwork for a Live Oak UU Children’s Choir, and planning Children’s Social Justice Action Projects for the upcoming year.
We’ve realized that while having classes before the service works well for our youngest, it can be challenging for families with children of varying ages, and we may miss welcoming visitors. To create a more inclusive and manageable morning, we’ve decided to return to holding children’s Faith Development classes after the service, from 11:15 to 12:15. Please remember to sign in and sign out your children in their designated classrooms:
- Nursery (0-3.5ish): Room 109
- Chalice Children (3.5ish-6): Room 111
- Lego ValUUes (2nd-5th grade): Room 201
- Youth (6th-12th grade): Room 209
We’re excited to announce that the Live Oak UU Children’s Choir will begin on February 2nd. The choir will meet in place of regular classes in Room 205. More details can be found below.
This Sunday is the Band Service, and we want to inform you that two of the many song performances will address gun violence in honor of the Vidas Robadas installation. They will be performed near the end of the service. We’ve included links to these songs so you can listen ahead and decide what’s best for your family. Walking and talking to your children about the Vidas Robadas display and the lyrics to the songs can be a valuable opportunity to start age-appropriate conversations with your children about gun violence. With the prevalence of active shooter drills and stop-the-bleed training in schools, beginning these discussions early can be beneficial in helping our kids feel safe and to know that their church and the adults around them are working to make the world a kinder place.. If you’re looking for tips on how to approach these difficult topics, consider joining the Soulful Parenting Support Group, which meets on the first Saturday of each month, and check out our Parenting Resource Google Folder here. (Talking to Kids about Hard Things Folder) The Nursery will be available if you decide your child/ren are not ready to hear this music yet.
If you have any questions about Faith Development, please feel free to reach out to me at dlfd@liveoakuu.org.
Warmly,
Chris

Adult Faith Development
What Moves Us begins February 16th
The UUA’s Tapestry of Faith program “What Moves Us” provides a framework for Unitarian Universalists to engage in theological reflection, not as an intellectual exercise, but as a process of meaning-making that equips one for living in the world as a Unitarian Universalist person of faith.
This program explores the life experiences of both historic and contemporary Unitarian Universalist theologians, highlighting that which caused in them a change of heart, a new direction, new hope, and a deeper understanding of their own liberal faith. These workshops offer you a chance to engage with and bring your personal experiences to bear on the very questions explored by each theologian in turn. No need to sign up, just show up. You are welcome to attend just a few or all of these sessions.
Schedule:
February 16th Workshop 1: George de Benneville
March 2nd Workshop 2: Charles Chauncy
March 16th Workshop 3: Hosea Ballou
March 30th Workshop 4: William Ellery Channing
