Principal Update
Greetings FitzGerald Families!
What a great first "Fitzy Friday" we had at FitzGerald! It has been wonderful having our whole community together, as the Kindergarten joined us for their first week of school. Today we had a K-5 assembly on showing our core value of the month, Positive Attitude, as well as the Social Emotional Skill of the Month: Self Management. The entire school came together to share in conversation, play some games, and set goals in this area. Please see the "Update from the FitzGerald School Counseling Office" below for more information.
Today, fourth grade students also learned about opportunities to participate on the Fourth Grade Student Council (an advisory group for the admin team that complete projects to help bring ideas of theirs to the FitzGerald community in different ways). Fifth Grade learned about ways in which they can volunteer as a Panther Partner (helping in classrooms across the school) or on the Safety Squad (a group that helps to oversee safety in the school with Officer John). We look forward to working together with these student leadership teams again this school year!
Save the Date!: The FitzGerald Back to School Night will be on Wednesday September 25th from 6:00-7:30pm. More coming next week on the structure of the event. We can't wait for students to show their families their learning spaces and see some of the great things that they have done so far!
Have a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Santillo, Principal- jennifersantillo@walthampublicschools.org
Mrs. Lamoly, Assistant Principal- julielamoly@walthampublicschools.org
An Update from the FitzGerald School Counseling Office
Greetings FitzGerald Families!
We hope that the transition back to school has settled in smoothly and everyone is enjoying the beautiful weather we are having!
During our Social Emotional Learning (SEL) time this week students were engaging with each other by continuing to get to know their classmates and school community while building on routines and creating environments where everyone feels safe, valued, understood and respected.
All students participated in an assembly this morning where they learned more about this month’s Core Value; Positive Attitude and SEL Skill; Self Management. Self Management means to manage and control your emotions, thoughts and behaviors in different situations. Be sure to ask your child(ren) about the whole school game of “Simon Says” that we played together! This was a learning opportunity for students to practice having a positive attitude while demonstrating self management skills as a whole school community! Fourth and Fifth Grade students also learned about all the amazing opportunities they have as role models in our school to participate in a variety of in-school activities such as the Fourth Grade Council, Panther Partners, Safety Squad and Green Team. Be on the lookout for more information about this soon!
Throughout this school year during SEL time students will be engaging in lessons that highlight our Core Values and SEL Competencies to help students build foundational skills that focus on the Whole Child and align with what they are learning each day in their classrooms.
I invite and encourage any family that would like additional resources about SEL or the competencies we are engaging with this year to reach out to me at any time!
I look forward to connecting with many of you during our Open House on September 25th and am happy to answer any questions you may have about SEL or any additional ways the counseling office can support your child(ren) and family.
In partnership,
Ms. Bernard
