Principal's Message
Dear Yowell Families,
My hope is that this past week you were able to hit pause and enjoy your family over the Thanksgiving holiday. We can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that we don't see all the blessings around us. I am genuinely thankful to be the principal of Yowell Elementary. Our school is filled with wonderful students and a fantastic staff. It was very heartwarming to read and distribute the gratitude messages many of you sent. Knowing we have a school where parents are so supportive of our work with children is priceless.
I want to take a moment to explain some of the attendance letters that you may have received this year. The state of Virginia is reimplementing the accreditation standard for school attendance as an indicator of school success. We are required to send letters monthly to students who are chronically absent as defined by the Virginia Department of Education (10% of the school year). These are for any absence either excused or unexcused. As we go into the remainder of the school year I want to remind each family of the CCPS attendance policy. Parents can excuse 10 absences by calling the office or informing their child's teacher. After the student has acquired 10 parent calls the days will be unexcused (all doctor and nurse excused days are excused). I am including an FAQ page in our weekly newsletter. I hope this makes it clearer why attendance is more of a focus this year than it was in the past. If you have questions about attendance or want to report it directly to our attendance clerk please get in touch with Christi Dunn - cdunn@culpeperschools.org
Lastly, a gentle reminder to our 3-5th grade Sports Club members, there is no sports club this week.
Sincerely,
Mrs. Fiscus

Winter weather FAQ
With winter approaching, we must prepare for the possibility of inclement weather. The decision-
making process for closing schools for inclement weather is complex with the safety of our students
and staff as our top priority. Here are the answers to some frequently asked questions about weather closings/delays...
