Welcome to our CTS Snapshot - a weekly celebration update. We are delighted to share with parents and carers alike student triumphs at Corby Technical School. We are proud of every student and every success they have - please feel free to share with us any achievements they might have.

Year 11 Science:
Year 11 students completed a Specific Latent Heat Core Practical this week with Miss Kritzinger. Below, you can see some of the group's lovely work.
We also saw something very interesting happen. The thermometer from one of the practicals, melted a hole through the boiling tube. The science department has some theories. What do you think could have caused this and what type of reaction took place?

MFL:
Mrs Bartlett would like to congratulate the Year 11 Spanish students who have just undertaken their first round of speaking assessments! They have had a great start and Mrs Bartlett is looking forward to seeing all their progress in the second session early next term. Mrs Bartlett would particularly like to praise Nikodem B, James and Samuel A, for their performances; they have a fantastic work ethic and are making excellent progress.
Mrs Sahota would like to say well done to all the students of Year 11A Spanish group who have experienced their first round of speaking assessments! Mrs Sahota would like to congratulate Jasmine, Thomas and David for their resilience, effort and hard work that they have shown in preparation for their assessment. Superb effort!
Mrs Gonzalez-Villiamil Lean would like to say well done to Year 8 student Rhys for turning things around in Spanish this week and displaying a positive attitude to learning. Keep this up!
Music:
Miss Patrick has made the following nominations this week:
Year 7 have been introduced to a variety of different samba rhythms this week and begun to practice layering together in a polyrhythm as a whole class. Miss Patrick was very impressed with 7SW this week who demonstrated their ability to keep their own part in time – a challenging skill to master! Special mention to Adriana and Rylee from 7SW who worked well on each instrument they were given to play and for helping to keep other performers in time – well done!
Year 8’s have been continuing with their Djembe practice by exploring call and response this week. A special mention to Alessandro in 8TE who has consistently worked very hard during on his Djembe drumming technique, which helped his group to produce a very professional call and response section- excellent work!
This week year 9 composed their own short ukulele ensemble pieces, using Steve Reich’s ‘Electric counterpoint III’ as inspiration. Miss Patrick really enjoyed listening to the different approaches students had taken to create their pieces and the finished results were fantastic! A special mention to Alicia and Mariyah in 9SW for helping their groups to create effective ostinatos and also to Toby and Jake who not only offered some great comments during the lesson, they also helped Miss Patrick with the demonstration in front of the class!
Maths:
Mr Lee has nominated 11B1 for their fantastic work finding the equations of straight lines.
Also nominated are 11A3 for a really focused lesson on reverse percentages in preparation for their summer exams and finally Year 10 students Josh, Seth, Amelia, Ksenija, Cameron B, Cameron H, Kayden and Alicia for making fantastic progress with Hegarty Maths this week!
Miss Kaur has nominated 8A3 for their fantastic progress since the start of the year!
Mr Jackson has nominated 11A2 this week for their great progress and achievement from their most recent assessments. Their effort is starting to show positive results and Mr Jackson really pleased with their progress at the moment.
Humanities:
Mr Hallas would like to say well done to Aleksander, Alicja, Georgia, Aleksandra and Milly in 8CU for their performance in the ‘coasts’ end of topic test. The level of detail in their written work was a joy to see and was ‘jam-packed’ with geographical facts and examples.
Mr Strumpher has nominated 7TU Geography class for working very well in Geography this week. They tried their best in the assessment this week. Also nominated are Year 11 students Leila P, Daisy M, Oskar H, Abigail B, Kamila P for working so hard in their Geography lessons and producing very good answers in the classroom.
Engineering:
Year 11 engineering student have worked very hard this week during their intensive practical engineering work shop days where each group has spent 5 hours focusing on the project work. Well done you have all been amazing!
Food Technology:
Mrs Firmin would like to nominate 8TE who completed some excellent independent revision work this week. Well done 8TE!
Year 10 food students did fantastically well this week working in groups to make steamed chicken dim sum – they even made the dumpling dough wraps themselves! Very impressive work in a short space of time.
Science:

Year 7 student Harvey for consistently trying the work and not giving up!
Year 8 student Seb for his excellent contributions during Science.
Year 9 student Ava G for great work in Science.
Year 10 student Julia D for excellent Physics work.
Year 11 student Brandon S for great answers in Biology this week.
English:
Mrs Rice would like to nominate Year 9 students Chloe, Scarlett and Ruby for excellent work on Macbeth.
Also nominated are Year 8 students Addison, Alicja, Georgia, Veronica, Jasmine, Oliwia and Ann Maria for their overall fantastic work on The Tempest and Jakub, Lily and Beatrice for excellent progress with your green pen paragraphs from last week.
PE:
Mr Rogers would like to say well done to the Year 8 football team on their 5-3 win against Brooke Weston Academy. Well done to Joel for scoring 4 goals. Also nominated are Year 10 students Josh Samuel, Theo and Louis for their excellent work in PE this week.
Miss Williams has nominated 7SI for their brilliant effort in volleyball this week. Special mentions to Kaiden, Mia and Lucas for excellent communication skills.
Mrs Feeley would like to nominated her Year 7 groups who have made great progress in Netball this week learning the positions and the roles of players in Netball.
Congratulations to Katie W Yr7, Sophie Y10, Ben C Y9, Amelie H Yr8 for outstanding effort in PE this week. Also nominated are Mrs Feeley’s sports science group who have had a great week preparing for their first assessment of a new unit in Sports Nutrition this week.
Mr Armstrong has nominated Year 9 students Rhys and Ethan for their consistently positive attitude in PE lessons regardless of the activity.
Drama:
Miss James has nominated Year 10 student Jaasau for effectively delivering a starter activity in a recent Year 10 Drama lesson. Great leadership and confidence skills!
