Learning for the Real World. Every Class. Every Day.

Expo is Coming!
Dear NEAAAT Family,
We are extremely excited about our upcoming Exposition of Student Learning (“Expo”), which has become one of our most impactful and cherished traditions at NEAAAT! Last year’s successful two-night event, with a variety of grade levels presenting, was truly extraordinary.
On Wednesday, February 12, 2025, students in grades 5, 7, 9, & 11 are scheduled to participate in Expo and will attend school face to face on a delayed start. Students in grades 6, 8, 10 & 12 will have a remote assignment to complete (no live remote classes).
The schedule will switch on Thursday, February 13, 2025 with students in grades 6, 8, 10, & 12 participating in Expo and attending school face-to-face on a delayed start schedule. Students in grades 5, 7, 9, & 11 will have a remote assignment to complete (no live remote classes).
Friday, February 14, 2025 and Monday February 17, 2025, are both Coach workdays. There are no classes for students on these days.
Transportation to college classes will not be provided on Expo days or the coach workdays.
On the days students are participating in Expo, they may arrive to school between 1:30 and 2:15. Buses will transport students to school, but transportation home following the Expo will not be provided. Based on years of data we know that our students benefit from a warm-up period prior to the start of Expo. This year, Expo will begin with a soft start as students present to a slate of guests from other school locations, elected officials, and peers at 4pm. Doors will open to parents and community guests at 5pm and the expo will conclude at 7pm.
An early dinner of pizza (Little Caesars), chips, and water will be provided for students but they are welcome to pack their own food if needed. Any parent who would like to donate toward the cost of feeding students can send money to the school or donate online at https://www.clover.com/pay-widgets/69e93aa2-823e-4413-8a05-d9bde85d2dc8.
Indicate in the note section that the funds are for Expo Lunch. Cash can also be given to the student’s homeroom coach. It will cost NEAAAT approximately $5 per student for their dinner (~$3,750 over the two days).
All students are required to participate at Expo. Students should dress in business attire. Should your student need appropriate clothing, please contact Karrie Chappell for assistance. Many students change after eating and before the Expo begins in order to keep presentation clothing looking professional.
We look forward to celebrating the NEAAAT tradition of Expo with our families and community again this year. If you have questions, please contact Karrie Chappell, karriechappell@northeastacademy.org
Why does NEAAAT hold Expositions of Learning?
Why is it so important that my child attend?
Expositions of Learning are important components of NEAAAT culture, as they are excellent venues for students to build and demonstrate superlative mindsets (habits of the mind), skillsets (content knowledge), and toolsets (employability skills). These events are held twice per year, and all NEAAAT students are expected to attend each event. Though both events are “Expositions”, the format of each is purposefully different. The Winter Expo is the presentation of a project to a large audience and the Spring Expo is a presentation of the student’s educational portfolio to a smaller audience. These events help students, parents, and community members see how students are developing these six competencies, as described in our portrait of a graduate, on their learning journey at NEAAAT.
Thank you for playing an active role in growing all NEAAAT students to be career ready by making arrangements for your child to attend each Exposition of Learning, and for consistently and positively reinforcing expectations regarding these valuable learning opportunities. Furthermore, we encourage you to serve as an event volunteer or participate as an audience member. You never know the tremendous impact just a few minutes of your time might make in the life of a child!
NEAAAT’s Portrait of a Graduate is a set of 6 competencies that our community identified as necessary for students to be successful: college and/or career-ready. NEAAAT took over a year to gather feedback from all stakeholder groups to capture the skills and knowledge needed to be successful in students’ next steps of life. The Portrait of a Graduate is NEAAAT’s promise to every student that upon graduation they will be able to demonstrate mastery in all six competencies. See below.
Students Of The Week!
Support Western NC! Donate Books
We continue to support efforts in Western Carolina by collecting books for FernLeaf Charter school. This K-4 school lost EVERYTHING. Our students are working to get books back in their classrooms (which have been relocated - their campus was a total loss). Please consider donating books by gathering gently used books or purchasing new. Below is a link of the books we are looking to collect (multiple copies are ok!) as well as an Amazon link for purchase. Please send you books to the school 1413 W Ehringhaus Street

You can also donate cash or check (made out to NEAAAT) and we will do the shopping for you!

JOIN OUR NEAAAT BUSINESS ALLIANCE!
The work-based experiences made possible through our Business Alliance Partnerships are already helping us to achieve our vision of being a model for teaching and learning and a leader in the movement to ensure that all children have equitable access to a high quality education.
We’re currently seeking opportunities to build stronger connections with our Business Alliance partners. We’re pleased to announce that we will be growing our internship program this year, and we’re currently looking for employers who are willing to welcome 1 or more students to complete 80 hours or more of on-site work. Other opportunities will include guest speaking in our classrooms, judging projects, providing student feedback on public speaking events, and partnering with our coaches to create lessons that allow our students to explore what we call “the real world of work”.
