Himlie Hello
January 17, 2025
Dunn families,
Happy New Year! I hope that you had a beautiful two weeks home with family and friends. We have begun the second semester with exciting learning and connection. Kindergartens parades the halls to celebrate learning all the letters of the alphabet, ecosystems made with legos and clay and construction paper and Perler beads came in this morning to share with classmates, and fourth and fifth graders enjoyed the YES concert yesterday.
We look forward to celebrating your children's learning in the upcoming months.
You Belong,
Abby
Important Upcoming Dates
Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Junior Day (1/20/25)
This year, as we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., we are called to embrace the 2025 theme for our locale: "Justice Everywhere, Mission Possible." Dr. King’s vision reminds us that justice is not an abstract ideal but a mission to be actively pursued in our daily lives, in our schools, and in our communities. As we reflect on his teachings, we are challenged to take bold steps toward justice, dismantling inequities wherever they exist and ensuring dignity and inclusion for every child, every day. Together, we can make the seemingly impossible mission of “justice everywhere” a reality.
You can join members of our community in honoring Dr. King’s steadfast dedication to breaking down racial barriers and achieving justice for all at this year’s march which will begin at Washington Park (301 Maple Street) at 1:00 PM on January 20.
Complete details about the march and celebration can be found here, AND those interested in helping with the day of service can click here.
Holocaust Remembrance Day (1/27/25)
Observed on the anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz-Birkenau, this day reminds us to honor the victims and survivors of the Holocaust. It is also a call to action urging us to ensure the lessons of history guide us toward a future rooted in understanding and acceptance. The CDE Holocaust and Genocide Teaching Guide (6-12 Social Studies) and Holocaust Educators page provide great information as does the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum. The University of Denver is a local resource with a plethora of materials designed to support educators including Survival & Witness resources for teachers and students.
This day is a powerful reminder of the strength and resilience of the human spirit and the urgent, ongoing need to confront antisemitism in all forms.
Lunar New Year (1/29/25)
Lunar New Year 2025 ushers in the Year of the Snake. This significant celebration is observed by many cultures, including Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, and other East and Southeast Asian communities. The Lunar New Year marks the beginning of the lunar calendar and is a time to honor family, traditions, and new beginnings. Celebrations often include gatherings, festive meals, gift-giving, and symbolic practices to bring luck and prosperity for the year ahead.
