Mr. Mauck's Musings
Happy Valentine's Day to all. Congratulations to Reagan Book who was recognized as a National Merit Scholarship Finalist. Reagan was in the top 15,000 students national based on her academic potential and progress. This is an outstanding achievement. Stella Knies and Mr. Eckert were recognized this week as the Student and Staff of the Week. If you are looking for last minute Valentine's Day plans look no farther than the JHS Auditorium. Mrs. Luebbehusen's theater class is performing Peter and the Starcatcher—a captivating prequel to Peter Pan that is full of adventure, humor, and heart. Join us in the JHS auditorium for one of our performances, Friday, Feb 14 @ 7 PM, Sunday, Feb 16 @ 2 PM. Login to ticketor.com/jhsperformingarts. We’d love to see you there to support our talented students and enjoy a magical night at the theater. Reserve your tickets today, and let us know if you have any questions. Here is a link to an article by the Dubois County Free Press. I have also link a student created promo video. Thursday's performance was fantastic. Go check out one of the other two performances.
Good luck to our Girls Swim team as 8 girls compete in state prelims tonight for a shot at a top 16 finish tomorrow in the finals. Our girls will be in the pool with Olympians and they will see national records broken at the Indiana Swim State. The JHS Bowling team heads to state tomorrow as well. Good luck gentlemen.
Mr. Dahmer's construction class listed to Joel Weyer from Weyer Electrical talk about opportunities as an electrician. Joel was also able to critique some of our students' wiring and provide suggestions. The JHS motorsports club held an open house with 15 different community partners present to see our car and mentor our students. Matt Pryor the GJCS A.I. coordinator has included a message for parents. JHS StuCo has a new batch of class bulletin boards celebrating Valentine's Day. Take a second and vote for your favorite. JHS Interact Club is doing a SWICACC fundraiser called Cozy Collections, so please bring in blankets, stuffed animals, children's books, hygiene products, children's toys, snacks, or money donations to Mrs. Grant's room.
A note to all students and parents, on March 5th all Juniors will be taking the SAT. This is a state requirement. There is no fee for taking this test. Motorsports Open House
JHS Motorsports club hosted Open House on February 13. The club explained to community partners and potential sponsors what their club is about, and informed them of their intentions and how our community friends can help. Oink Inc, graciously donated some food for all the guests to enjoy! We thank everyone who attended, and even those who did not participate that may end up supporting our club's future goals! The event turned out to be a huge success!
Weyer Electric Presents to the Construction Class
Mr. Dahmer's CTE students heard from Joel Weyer, of Weyer Electric. Joel spent his time in our Construction classes instructing the students a little about the commercial side of Electrical Wiring; coinciding with Mr. Dahmer's project which focuses more on the residential side of electrical wiring. Under Joel's instruction and assistance, the students completed a commercial wiring activity that helps train new employees at Weyer Electric. It's always a good way to connect with our businesses and have them come into our classes so students can hear from people who do different types of work within our local community.
Thanks for your time Joel!

Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)
The Free Application for Federal Student Aid site is now open for Students and Parents to complete their applications for next year. Any student considering attending college should complete the FAFSA to be eligible for financial assistance. I would encourage all families to fill out a application regardless of need as many colleges require FAFSA completion for all types of assistance. Many schools require submission for competitive non-need based scholarships or grants. The application is much easier than in the past. Click on the link for more information and to complete your application. FAFSA
Message from Matt Pryor GJCS AI Coordinator
Dear Parents,
At Greater Jasper Consolidated Schools, our District Vision is "Engaging students in educational excellence for lifelong success." We recognize the significant role that artificial intelligence (AI) plays in education and in our students' futures. As such, we are committed to teaching our students the responsible use of this technology. Currently, students are prohibited from using AI unless given specific instructions by their classroom teacher. When students have permission to use AI, we aim to create a safe and age-appropriate experience. To achieve this, we have partnered with SchoolAI. Within SchoolAI, teachers can design objective-specific chatbots for their students, which have guardrails in place to ensure proper use. These chatbots are prompted by the teachers to fulfill specific roles.
If a student is unsure whether they can use AI for an assignment or as a tutor, they should communicate with their teacher.
The Indiana Department of Education’s (IDOE’s) Office of Digital Learning is excited to release a new resource to support parents and families across the state. AI Guidance for Parents and Families provides quick videos on important topics specific to the needs of caregivers.
There are currently four videos included in this collection, and because there are many demands on parents’ time, each video is just 2-3 minutes long. The current topics covered include:
