Principal's Note
Dear Mariposa Families,
This is my favorite time of year! Whether I was in the classroom teaching or now serving as Principal, I have always loved seeing the tremendous growth our Eagles show every day—both academically and socially—after returning from Winter Break.
I have been meeting monthly with our School Council Representatives from 1st to 5th grade during their lunch. These meetings provide a wonderful opportunity to hear their thoughts on what’s working, what’s not, and what they’d like to see at Mariposa. Their insights are incredibly thoughtful! Based on their input, we’ve already made some exciting changes, including new soccer goals, additional soccer balls, the return of supervised dodgeball at recess, and an increase in Sportsmanship tickets to recognize students demonstrating great sportsmanship. They’ve also shared how much they are enjoying writing in their classrooms this year!
As a school, we have been focusing on writing and supporting our English Language Learners through various teaching strategies our staff has been implementing. I encourage you to ask your child about their writing experiences in school!
Our attendance goal for the year is 95%, but due to illnesses over the past few months, our attendance rate has dropped to about 93% since November. If your child will be absent, please notify the school. Wishing your family good health in the months ahead!
Warmest Wishes,
Kristin Finney
Mariposa Avenue Elementary School Principal

Attendance Matters!!
Each month students who have 100% Attendance are rewarded with a perfect attendance award and little attendance tag.
We know that things happen but being on time and present every day is very important. Parents get 10 parent verified illnesses a year, if you bring in a doctor's note it gets coded differently and keeps parent illness codes available for emergencies or for a mental health day, if needed. Most absences occur at the end of school and around the holidays. Three tardy days add up to one absence.
If you know your child is going to be absent please call our attendance line at 916-971-5212, or
email mariposaabsence@sanjuan.edu or on the San Juan app.
79 Days left!
From February 1st to the end of the year we have 79 days of school left (6 are half days). How many days do you think you could make it to for the rest of the year?
