Cliftondale Elementary School-Community Newsletter
Friday, March 1, 2024
Hello March!!!
Thank you, parents, for your support with our many events and activities throughout the month of February! Whether it was supporting your student with his/her project, attending our program, or the daily themed attire. We THANK YOU! This past week, we had our annual STEAM Night, and what a time we had! We received WONDERFUL feedback about the activities and Mr. Green from Science for Everyone! I am so glad that this was a great experience for our students and parents as well. :)
Please take a moment to review our school newsletter for important school happenings this week:
- ANNUAL PARENT PERCEPTION SURVEY: We want to hear from you! Take the Annual Parent Perception Survey between February 12 and March 15 and tell us what you think about Fulton County Schools. https://www.fultonschools.org/annualparentsurvey
Students in grade 3rd-5th grade will take the STUDENT Perception Survey March 4th-March 8th. Parents may review the actual survey and additional parent information on the district website by CLICKING HERE. Parents may also review our Board Policy on Surveys administered to students.- The Federal Programs Department is holding our district Federal Programs Input Meeting. We are requesting parent, community, and staff input into how we spend our federal grant funds (Title I, II, III, IV, and IDEA) and our District Parent and Family Engagement Plan. The meeting dates are March 26th at 9:00 am Join here Input Meeting 1 and March 27th at 1:00 pm Join here Input Meeting 2 . The meetings are scheduled to take place on Microsoft Teams. Your input is essential, and we value your feedback.
MORNING ARRIVAL-IMPORTANT: Parents are currently welcomed to walk their child to class from 7:00 am-7:35 am each morning. As of 7:35 am, parents are not permitted beyond the cafeteria. I ask that parents remember that this time is for morning drop off only and not time for conferencing with teachers. I ask that you kindly schedule a conference with the teacher via email to address any concerns relating to your student as morning drop-off is not the appropriate time to do so. We have had a large number of parents lingering in classrooms, attempting to conference teachers, and upset at 7:35 when unable to walk a child to class. I respectfully ask that you adhere to our school policies and procedures so that we are able to allow parents to continue to walk students to class.
In addition, it is an expectation that all visitors maintain professional decorum when engaging with the Cliftondale Staff. Using profanity and any other disruptive behaviors will not be tolerated on this campus. Disruptive behaviors as such could lead to a ban on this campus. A ban will limit your access to our school property or events.
We look forward to working with this community to keep our students; staff; and visitors safe.
NATIONAL SCHOOL SOCIAL WORKER WEEK: We celebrate National School Social Work Week, acknowledging the exceptional contributions of School Social Workers who enhance and support the well-being of our students, families, and communities. The theme for this year is #PearlsofWisdom.
School Social Workers play a vital role in student academic success by removing barriers and ensuring basic needs are met. As integral members of our school teams, Social Workers contribute to many facets of student interventions, including advocating and collaborating on issues such as attendance, dropout prevention, mental health, and community partnership.
Please celebrate and acknowledge the work of your school social worker. Here are some resources to do so: https://www.sswaa.org/school-social-work-week #FULTONSSWW
Kind Regards,
Mrs. Canty

EXCEPTIONAL CHILDREN'S WEEK IN FCS
We are thrilled to be celebrating Exceptional Children’s week the week of March 4th through March 8th. Please see below for our theme:
Children with disabilities achieve successful outcomes when properly supported. One such support that comes in many forms is Assistive Technology. Assistive technology when matched to student needs helps students with disabilities access the curriculum and the learning environment. Assistive technology is selected to match the need of the student:
· Communication devices for students that need alternative modes of communication
· Sound fields to assist students with hearing loss
· Reading Software for students with learning disabilities that impact decoding and reading fluency
· Artificial Intelligence technologies that assist students with diminished vision
This week our scholars will explore the theme by engaging in:
- QR Scavenger Hunt- Each QR Code explores an Assistive Technology
- Building Assistive Technology Collages
- Learning opportunities provided with the Morning announcements.
Please take any opportunities at home to explore with your child the many forms of assistive technology.

Candidate Declaration Window IS NOW OPEN!
It is time for the election of new members to our School Governance Council. The School Governance Council has both parent/guardian and teacher positions open for election.
Our School Governance Council (SGC) plays a critical role in the success of our school. The SGC works with school leadership and the community to help determine the long-term direction of the school, design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement, and serve as school ambassadors to the local community. Specifically, the School Governance Council has the following powers:
• Create, approve, and monitor the implementation of the school strategic plan
• Manage the Request for Flexibility process
• Approve the annual budget recommendations and related allocations
• Participate in the hiring of the principal, in the case of a vacancy
• Provide annual feedback to the Area Superintendent on principal performance
The candidate declaration phase will begin on Monday, February 5th and will end Friday, March 29th at 5:00 pm. Voting will be April 17th-24th. The Governance and Flexibility team provides a toolkit with a wealth of materials that we anticipate will support your Outreach and Communication Committee and SGC with the elections process. As you know, our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students will take the Georgia Milestones Assessments in the spring. The Georgia Milestones Assessment System is designed to provide information about how well students are mastering the state-adopted content standards in the core content areas of English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies.
Importantly, Georgia Milestones is designed to provide students with critical information about their own achievement and their readiness for their next level of learning – be it the next grade, the next course, or the next endeavor (college or career).
Informing parents, educators, and the public about how well students are learning important content is an essential aspect of any educational assessment and accountability system. Parents, the public, and policy makers, including local school districts and boards of education, can use the results as a barometer of the quality of educational opportunity provided throughout the state of Georgia. As such, Georgia Milestones serves as a key component of the state's accountability system – the College and Career Ready Performance Index (CCRPI).
