Message from the Principal
Veronica Gale
The school year is up and running, and our students are doing an amazing job learning the procedures and expectations that help our school operate smoothly. We are so proud of their efforts as they adapt to these routines.
One key part of our mornings is the Morning Walking Club, which takes place from 7:45-7:55 each day. It’s a fantastic way for students to get moving and start their day energized. Doors to the building open promptly at 7:55, and students are expected to be in their classrooms and ready to learn before the tardy bell rings at 8:05. Any students arriving after the tardy bell will need to enter through the front doors and check in to ensure they’re marked present for the day.
We appreciate the support from parents and guardians in helping students arrive on time and participate in our morning routines. Let’s keep up the great work!

You Matter. We Matter.
Hello, Wildcat Families!
We’re back at it and in full force. I’d like to share a little of what we learned in Guidance class last week. The Guidance theme was “Emotional Regulation” but boy does that cover a wide range of conversations. As I prepared our lessons, I got to thinking. As a staff, we’re repeatedly asked to go back to our why. Why did we become educators or administrators or school counselors? And why do they repeatedly ask us that same question? Because we need reminders every once in a while. We’re asked so we remember why we chose to work in education. We love kids and being a part of helping them grow, learn, and develop.
So I brought that question down to our students’ level. We began with a discussion about how we treat others and the expectations adults have for students. Then, we moved into why we have those expectations. Why is it important to be respectful, responsible, safe, kind, positive influences as we go about our day? These are great questions to ask because if we know why these things are expected of us, it gives us a reason to do them! The number one reason I got was “so we don’t get in trouble.” Of course! From the mouths of babes!
With that, we dug a little deeper into why these expectations matter. Why? Because every child and adult in this school, town, and world is here for a reason! You matter! WE matter. We all have something to bring and share with this world. Many kids may not even know what that special gift is yet, but it’s there… deep down or close to the surface just waiting to be discovered. Because of this, it's important that we take a look around and notice the people we’re with each day and treat them like the world-changers they are. By showing kindness to others and seeing people as important, our community begins to change. We are encouraged, inspired, and filled with hope to do great things. Not only that, but it’s important to follow simple rules like respecting the voice level and teaching time in school because even if you hate Math, there’s something you gain by working hard and not giving up! You can develop grit by wrestling with the subjects you don’t love. It’s all important!
I may be biased but I believe Washington has the best students and families! Thank you for creating an incredible Washington Ohana (Hawaiian for “family.”). Thank you for showing up to family nights, events, and raising young people who believe in themselves and others. Thank you for choosing Washington to be your home. I believe we have a school full of world-changers and I can’t wait to see what they all do today and twenty years down the road!
