Fabulous Friday at DHS
Last Friday was truly a remarkable day at DHS! We kicked off the morning by awarding 51 seniors with an all-access pass. Last year, during their enhanced learning classes, these students analyzed their Pre-ACT scores and set goals for the ACT, which they took in March. Those who met at least three of their five goals or achieved a composite score of 28 or higher earned this special pass. Congratulations to our dedicated seniors!
We also had the privilege of recognizing three outstanding classes for embodying the DHS core values: Trustworthiness, Integrity, Growth Mindset, Empathy, and Respect. Teachers nominated their 2nd period classes that exemplify these qualities. Here’s what the teachers had to say:
Mrs. Goodman shared, "This class is composed of seniors involved in many extracurricular activities. Despite their busy schedules, they prioritize their academics. They’ve challenged each other to benchmark on WorkKeys. They are a lively crew, but always fun!"
Mrs. Williams said, "My second period class is amazing. Every day, they come in prepared, attentive, and ready to learn. They are always respectful, excited, and actively participate in class."
Mr. Holloway remarked, "My second period class is the best in the school because they arrive ready to work and learn. They are highly creative and engaging. They perfectly embody the Tiger Values by consistently doing the right thing, even when the teacher isn't looking, and always seeking ways to grow as citizens and students."
Lastly, on Friday night, the DHS Football team made a generous $500 donation to Lulu Gribbin and her family. For those who missed it, here’s the announcement that was read during the game:
"On January 8, 2024, the Demopolis Football Team began collecting money with the goal of donating annually to a worthy cause. After contributions from each player, the team discussed potential causes and learned about Lulu Gribbin, a student at Mountain Brook High School. Coincidentally, our first football game of the season was against her school, and the team knew this was the best cause to support.
On June 7, 2024, Lulu’s life was forever changed when she, along with several family members and friends, was vacationing in Florida. She was the victim of a shark attack, which resulted in the loss of one of her legs and a hand. Since the attack, she has undergone numerous surgeries and weeks of therapy. Lulu is finally back home in Mountain Brook and is a living miracle.
The term 'Lulu Strong' has gained much popularity since the accident. Lulu has shown incredible strength and determination in her recovery, serving as a testimony to overcoming adversity. This year, our goal is to also be 'Lulu Strong.'
The administration from Mountain Brook High School accepted a check on behalf of the Demopolis High School Football Team. Please join me in wishing Lulu and her family all the best!"
We are so proud of our students for consistently demonstrating the Tiger Core Values. Last Friday was indeed a great day to be a TIGER!
