TIPS Journal December 1, 2022
on the school year so far
Greetings from Tokyo International Progressive School
International Day - December 16 this year - is one of the most important days on our school calendar. It is a day to celebrate our diversity through food and fun. We hope you can stop by for a plate of food, an incredible meal that no restaurant could ever hope to serve. We have 24 nationalities represented this year by staff and students! We are proud of that!
Please see the link below to let us know how you can support our International Day menu. The schedule is also below. International Day does not succeed without parent support.
Looking ahead to spring, our Variety Show date will be March 10. Hats off to Mr. Wan and Mr. Mondino, who are co-directors this year.
As always, any questions, please ask!
All the best,
Lyn Sato

The October Bake Sale earned a 21,800 yen profit. A warm thank you for to all the families for the baked donations and for coming into school for our first bake sale.
Next Bake Sale is Wednesday 12/7 from 11am to 1pm. Sign-up Genius will go out mid November - early December.
One last announcement for 10,000 yen annual donation towards PSA, will be collected through the end of November. Please submit to Junko-san with your child's name and grade. Thank you.
Some great new ideas were presented to the floor towards the end of our PSA meeting. Asako Aiba kindly offered to provide translations of our PSA meeting notes and notices into Japanese for families who do not speak English. Anelia Ludeke would like PSA to look into other ways to raise money for PSA (e.g. Color Run), that helps promote more family activity and interaction. Angelic Hernandez brought up the possibility of PSA hosting a high school dance with guest DJ Rory. Along with these fabulous ideas, we are looking to host another social for parents, as well as hosting more family oriented events in the next couple months.

FALL SPORTS DAY
STUDENT COUNCIL ACTIVITY REPORT
With Christmas peeking around the corner, Student Council has been preparing fun events for all students! This includes Secret Santa that will be taking place from the 5th of December to the 14th. It will be an exciting event for all students who are willing to participate! Santa Claus will be visiting each class on the 14th along with his elves and Rudolph to deliver these presents to each student! Further details will be provided to students at school. Additionally, there will be a Christmas Movie Day for both Elementary / Middle and High schoolers with jolly buckets of popcorn and lots of laughter. - submitted by Kate Soda
As the year comes to an end in preparation for the winter holidays, only three weeks remain until our popular and well-liked, International Day on December 16th. As we all have planned what food to bring to share with everyone, we are happy to let your families know that the food will not be the only thing people have to look forward to! We have decided to make International Day even more fun than it already is by hosting a trivia game for 30 minutes from 12:45 to 1:15. During the duration of the trivia, there will also be other games planned and hosted by some students in the music room. Some activities that are being planned include Ping Pong Basketball, Black Jack, Cornhole, and traditional Japanese fan throwing game.
These fun games have been organized by the students of the Service Trip class. Therefore, there will be an entry fee for each of these activities including the trivia contest, so please make sure to send your child with money. All the money raised will go towards the upcoming service trip in March, 2023. The service trip is organized by the Service Trip class and Ms. Koh. On the service trip, the high schoolers will have the opportunity to go to Okinawa, Japan to do community service activities and learn about the importance of topics such as marine conservation and forest conservation. - submitted by Khadija Wahla
ATHLETICS
The Volleyball Athletic Banquet will be the early evening of December 2.
Now on to basketball season. Mr. Wan will coach the basketball team, which promises to be just as fun to watch!
