Curriculum Updates and Activities
How do we represent numbers in different ways?
Putting the straws into bundles of 10...
Counting up all of the straws at the end...
Weekly Math Update
Math: We began our unit on place value, counting, and comparison of numbers to 1,000. Students counted piles of straws and grouped them into bundles of ten and then bundles of 100 to represent the total. Parents, please look for the blue letter detailing all the strategies that will be presented during this unit. It went home today in the Thursday folder.
Weekly Social Studies/Science Update
Science:
We started our Life Cycles science unit where we're studying all about the life cycles of animals and the structure and life cycles of plants. In the lab we dissected a seed and saw the seed coat, seed food, and baby plant!
Weekly Reading and Writing Update
Reading: Our new unit will focus on fluency (automaticity, intonation, etc.) We'll improve in how we read aloud while noticing text features and heeding punctuation. We practiced with fluency partners.
Writing: We are learning how to write opinion pieces. Our first practice piece was a movie review. Currently, we're writing a book review with a good "hook" (beginning), an opinion, and reasons to support our opinion.
