A Message From Mr. Lynch
We are thrilled to wrap up another fantastic week here at Brimfield Elementary! Our students continue to amaze us with their hard work, kindness, and dedication to learning.
Today, many of our classes celebrated student achievements by handing out awards for the second quarter. Some classes will be distributing their awards on Monday. While we miss our traditional awards assemblies, the students truly enjoyed being celebrated in front of their peers. Their smiles and excitement made the day extra special!
As a reminder, please make sure your child dresses warmly for school, as we will continue to go outside for recess unless the wind chill drops below 20 degrees. Hats, gloves, and warm coats are highly encouraged so our students can stay comfortable while enjoying their time outdoors.
We are also looking forward to welcoming many of you to school over the next two weeks for parent-teacher conferences. These meetings are a great opportunity to discuss your child’s progress and celebrate their achievements. We appreciate your partnership in supporting their education!
Thank you for your ongoing support, and we look forward to another great week ahead!

Empowering Your Elementary School Child: Navigating Challenges Together
As parents, one of the most valuable gifts you can give your elementary school child is the support they need to overcome challenges and setbacks. Every child faces obstacles on their journey, whether it's academic, social, or personal. By providing the right guidance and encouragement, you can help your child develop essential life skills and a resilient mindset that will serve them well throughout their lives. Here are some strategies to help you empower your child through challenges:
1. Foster Open Communication:
Create an environment where your child feels comfortable discussing their concerns and problems. Listen attentively without judgment and validate their feelings. When they know they can come to you with anything, it builds trust and helps them feel understood.
2. Teach Problem-Solving:
Guide your child in finding solutions to their challenges. Encourage them to brainstorm different approaches and consider the pros and cons of each. Help them understand that setbacks are opportunities to learn and grow.
3. Set Realistic Expectations:
While it's important to challenge your child, setting unrealistic expectations can lead to frustration. Understand their strengths and limitations, and help them set achievable goals. Celebrate their successes, no matter how small, to boost their confidence.
4. Encourage Perseverance:
Challenges can be tough, but teach your child the value of perseverance. Share stories of your own experiences overcoming obstacles to inspire them. Remind them that effort and determination are key to success.
5. Focus on Effort, Not Just Results:
Shift the focus from the outcome to the effort your child puts in. Praise their hard work, dedication, and willingness to try, even if things don't go as planned. This helps them understand that growth comes from the process, not just the end result.
6. Promote a Growth Mindset:
Teach your child about the concept of a growth mindset, where they believe their abilities can be developed through effort and learning. Encourage them to embrace challenges as opportunities to learn, rather than as indicators of their limitations.
7. Provide a Safe Space:
Ensure your child knows that it's okay to make mistakes. Create an environment where failures are seen as stepping stones toward improvement. When they know they won't be criticized for trying new things, they'll be more willing to take risks.
8. Offer Guidance, Not Solutions:
While your instinct might be to solve your child's problems, giving them space to find solutions on their own fosters independence. Ask guiding questions that help them think critically and creatively.
9. Explore Interests and Passions:
Encourage your child to explore different activities and hobbies. When they discover their interests, they gain a sense of purpose and motivation to overcome challenges related to those areas.
10. Lead by Example:
Demonstrate resilience in your own life. Let your child see that you also face challenges and setbacks, but you handle them with a positive attitude and determination.
11. Celebrate Progress:
Celebrate every step forward, no matter how small. Acknowledging your child's efforts reinforces their commitment to overcoming challenges.
12. Seek Professional Help When Needed:
If you notice persistent struggles that significantly impact your child's well-being or development, consider seeking guidance from teachers, school counselors, or mental health professionals. They can offer specialized support to address specific challenges.
In the journey of growing up, challenges are inevitable. Your role as a parent is to provide a safe and nurturing space for your child to face these challenges head-on. By teaching them essential skills and fostering a resilient mindset, you're equipping them with tools that will serve them not only during their elementary school years but also throughout their entire lives.

PBIS
Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) is a proactive approach designed to foster a positive school climate by encouraging appropriate behavior. It focuses on teaching and reinforcing clear behavioral expectations in a consistent and structured way. PBIS emphasizes prevention rather than punishment, using data to identify and support students who may need additional help. By recognizing and rewarding positive behavior, PBIS aims to improve student engagement, reduce disciplinary issues, and create a more inclusive, respectful learning environment where all students can thrive academically and socially.
At Brimfield Elementary, students help to identify positive expectations and receive incentives for appropriate behavior. Your child may be chosen to participate in the Principal’s Club, receive a red SOAR ticket, or earn a Principal’s Good News call. The staff at Brimfield works hard to use positive words with students. Instead of telling a child to “stop running” in the hallway, the direction might be to “move throughout the halls in a controlled and safe manner”. Thank you, in advance, for partnering with us and using positive statements with your child. We are very proud of our PBIS program and look forward to celebrating the great behavior of our young Falcons!
