Updates and Reminders

Happy Veterans Day to all of our Veterans. Thank you for your service!
Thank you to the Local American Legion Auxiliary and the Goochland Restaurant for teaching our kids about Veterans Day last week!
Thank you for supporting our school at the Byrd Bazaar!
Thank you Southern States for the generous donation to our school Courtyard!
This week we are collecting canned fruit and veggies for the Goochland Christmas Mother.
Wednesday is World Kindness Day, and athletes from the high school will be at Byrd reading to students!
Congratulations to our two Lego Robotics Teams, who each brought home trophies for Byrd this weekend!
COGAT Testing is this week for 2nd and 5th graders.

Byrd Lego Robotics Brings Home Trophies from Tournament!

This year Byrd expanded our robotics program to include an additional team. Byrd's teams are made up of 4th and 5th graders who stay after school to participate in the program. Our teams have been hard at work since August learning to build and program Lego robots, and working on an innovation project. This past weekend our teams, The SEAgle Bots and Eagles Ahoy!, competed in a regional tournament against teams from all over Central Virginia. Eagles Ahoy! won the Judges Choice award for having an outstanding innovation project. The SEAgle Bots won first place in Core Values, and will continue on to participate in the state tournament at James Madison University. We are so proud of our teams who represented Byrd and Goochland County extremely well!

Lessons about Veterans Day

Last week volunteers from the American Legion Auxiliary and Christine Fauver from the Goochland Restaurant spent three days at school teaching each class about the importance of honoring our Veterans. Students got to speak to Veterans, hear stories, and learn about the Missing Man Table. Students also learned about the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. We are so appreciative of our community members who dedicated their time to help our students learn about our Armed Forces!

Byrd Is Collecting Food Pantry Items for the Christmas Mother

This week we continue to support our community by teaming up with the Goochland Christmas Mother to collect canned veggies and fruit!

Please notify the office about transportation changes via email at beseagles@glnd.k12.va.us. If you have daily transportation needs, please make sure you provide changes at the beginning of each week for the entire week. Please make sure you have all transportation changes in prior to 1:00 PM, this allows staff time to communicate all necessary changes and avoids confusion when a call is not received. We appreciate your support.

Parents who wish to chaperone a field trip or volunteer regularly in our school must submit to a background check every 2 years using the BIB portal. The process is completely electronic. If you are having problems with the system, contact Demetra Harris at dharris@glnd.k12.va.us.
