Thank you to all of the parents that came in to sign the new contracts last week. We appreciate your time and commitment to ensuring that we are up-to-date with state regulations.

As we head into the cold and flu season and begin preparing for our fall break in November, please take steps to keep your child healthy and send your hybrid student to school unless they are truly sick. Every day of in-person instruction is an important opportunity for students to learn as well as connect to peers and their teachers.Thank you to our students and their families who do their best to show up to class every day even when it isn’t easy. If you have any questions or concerns about attendance, please reach out to your child's teacher or the CELC/MVLA office staff. Thank you for your continued support as partners in your child's education!

As a reminder, Plan 6 is due on Wednesday, November 6th. Please make sure that you review your child's work for completion before turning it in. Their work is a direct correlation to their attendance credit. As the state makes changes to ISCs requirements and documentation, it is more and more important to ensure that your child is completing their work and turning it in on time.

Here are a few updates to help keep you informed:

• Mark your calendars for MVLA's annual Halloween Carnival this Thursday. The students and families will enjoy some fall fun from 11:30 am to 1:00 pm.
• We have a lot going on in November! Please make sure that you look at the calendar dates below.
• If you pick up your parents early, please check in at the SHES office. The staff will call the teacher and your child will be sent up to the office to meet you.
• MVLA students may enter the campus in the morning through the CELC or SHES gate. If they arrive after 9:05 a.m., they will need to go through the SHES gate. The gates between the two schools is locked by 9:10 am. We encourage MVLA students to be on time. Late arrivals interrupt instruction.
  
• As a reminder, the first bell at 8:50 a.m.- teachers will start greeting students. By 8:55 a.m. all students are expected to be in class ready to learn. The SHES gate closes at 9:00 a.m. If you get to school after the gate is closed, buzz in and check in at the office.
• Students are released at 1:25 p.m. Their lunch break is at 12:45 pm. Parents are welcome to pick up at 12:45 pm. If you would like to do this, please make arrangements with the teacher and pick your child up in the SHES office.

• For the safety and security of students and staff, gates are locked during school hours.

• MVLA students are picked up at dismissal (by the bus or parent) in front of SHES.
  
• If you pick your student up early, please check in at the SHES office.
• Please send your student to school each day with their fully charged Chromebook, a backpack, refillable water bottle, a healthy snack, and a lunch (unless they are getting a cafeteria lunch).

• If your child is a hybrid student, please report any in-person absences to your child's teacher.

• Before and after school care is available. Please see the flyer below or contact Aimee Hatfield, AUSD's ESS Coordinator, at ahatfield@alpineschools.net if you have any questions.

In AUSD's ongoing commitment to enhancing student achievement, they are setting goals for each school, classroom and the district this year. AUSD's targets include a 10% increase in ELA, Math, and Science scores, alongside a 10% reduction in chronic absenteeism, aiming for a 96% attendance rate. Our staff is dedicated and will work as a team to reach these goals. As partners in your child's hybrid homeschool program, let’s unite our efforts to support your student and turn these objectives into achievements. Together, we can make a significant impact and drive real progress.

MVLA has three school rules. Students will be learning behavior expectations that are aligned with being safe, responsible, and respectful. We practice Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS). We understand that our students are still learning to problem solve and deal with school expectations. We believe in progressive discipline and restorative practices. Teachers and staff document concerns and communicate them with parents to form a partnership in your child's success. We look forward to your support and partnership to ensure that your child is safe, responsible and respectful.

This resource can help you understand children's behavior and needs. All behavior is a form of communication.

Help your child develop a growth mindset! A positive twist to statements of difficulty and negativity can have a huge impact on success and confidence. See helpful statements below to support and encourage your child.

Have you ever asked your child how their day was or what they did? Do you often get a one word response like "nothing" or "fine". Try using our Take 5 Questions to help get more thought provoking answers. It is a great opportunity to connect with your child, learn more about their experiences at school, and help them build their language skills.

Our amazing School Social Worker, Camryn McInerney , created a list of recommended read aloud books. This is great way to connect with your students. These books can also be used as a resource to support SEL needs. Choose one of your favorite books or one on her list and make reading with your child a regular habit.
