WAYS TO HELP YOUR CHILD WITH THE SECOND LANGUAGE ACQUISITION

There are so many ways to help your child at home even if you are not fluent in the target language they are learning. Here are some tips for doing so:

ask what they learned in class
review their vocabulary or class notes with them for 5-10 minutes daily.
listen to music in the target language.
watch Television or movies in the target language.
speak the target language if possible at home.
flashcards with vocabulary
label items in the house in the target language.
use free digital platforms like Duolingo for 5 minutes a day.

WHAT ARE WE DOING THIS MONTH?

SPANISH ACADEMY

Spanish 1

Students in Spanish 1:We are about to finish lesson 4- La familia (Descriptive adjectives, er-ir verbs, tener and venir verbs).

It is important that students not only learn how to use the verbs, they need also to understand the vocabulary.

Please review all the vocabulary learned in class (Lesson 1 - 3), constantly

Spanish 2

(Miguez)Students will be introduced to the following:

names of parts of the body; health-related terms; symptoms and medical conditions; the imperfect tense.

Project

Students will record a skit using health and medical terms.

(Morales)-We are about to finish lesson 3 – Las fiestas (Irregular preterites, verbs that change meaning in the preterite, ¿Qué? and ¿Cuál?, and Pronouns after prepositions).

It is important that students not only learn how to use the verbs, they need also to understand the vocabulary.

Please review all the vocabulary learned in class (Lesson 1 - 3), constantly.

Spanish 3

Students will be introduced to the following:

terms for professions and occupations; work -related vocabulary; future tense; future perfect; the short film sinceridad; write an essay about plans for the future.

Project

Students will record a job interview.

TWO-WAY DUAL LANGUAGE ACADEMY

español

sexto grado(6)- students are working on the different tenses of verbs and how to use them correctly in writing .

séptimo grado(7)- Students continue working on the better understanding of correct orthography. This will allow them to improve their writing skills. We will be adding literature components.

octavo grado AP(8)-Students are finishing on the presentation speaking of the AP framework. They are working on Cultural comparison and how to focus on the practices,perspectives and products of each community in comparison of their own. They then learn how to create a 2 min oral presentation. We will begin the Argumentative Essays.

Ciencias Biológicas (6to)-CRM 2.1 Living Systems - Test is schedule for February 11th

ASL

Level 1

Happy February ASL Lightning Family!

This month we will be focusing on discovering our well known Deaf Black People and its history! Happy Black History Month! The students will be making a physical poster starting on February 4th and will be presenting about their person to the class on February 19th.

We also will do a variety Valentine's Day activities in next two weeks. We will have superb fun in our ASL class!
