Heights Highlights
December 2024
Dear Families,
It's hard to believe that it is already December! The cold weather has finally arrived, and we are only a few short weeks until the winter break. Please check out this month's Important Dates, as we are doing a Spirit Week leading up to the break. Any interested student is encouraged to dress-up in the theme of the day. Also, we are proud to share that EHMS has earned the state's Bronze Award for PBIS. This award is earned by schools that foster a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment. Similarly, Elyria City Schools also earned a Bronze on the district level. This makes it the first district in the region to earn this award. These are huge accomplishments that should be celebrated by all! As always, please reach out to our office if you have any questions!

Our PBIS expectations are to Be Respectful, Be Responsible and Be Ready to Learn. Our expectations are posted throughout the building and in each classroom. Teachers and staff will promote these positive expectations throughout the school day.
Students will earn Petey Bucks daily for a chance to earn prizes. Students will also have the opportunity to get a positive phone calls weekly, quarterly rewards, and consistent celebrations of their success.
We invite you to join us in supporting this work together by discussing our PBIS program at home with your child. Students love to celebrate their hard work and dedication with the adults in their life. We appreciate your positive support of student learning at school and at home.
Cell Phones and Attire
As we begin the new year, we ask that you please review the ECS Code of Conduct with your Pioneer. It outlines the expectations for all ECS students while at Heights. It's been linked below for your convenience. As always, if you have questions, don't hesitate to reach out to our main office.
We often get questions about attire and cell-phones. Hoodies, and similar tops or jackets with hoods, are "fan favorites" when it comes to school attire. We like them, too, but not when they are worn up and over the head during the school day.
The district's Student Code of Conduct provides direction on headgear, stating that it may not be worn over a person's head or scalp (excluding headgear that's worn for religious or medical reasons.) Hoods can make it difficult to identify an individual in an emergency, and they can also be a distraction in class. Please remind students that hoods may not be worn up during the school day.
The Student Code of Conduct also offers guidance on attire. Clothing must be school appropriate and may not present a health or safety hazard or disrupt the educational environment. Pants and tops must fit properly and be in good repair; crop tops are not permitted.
Additionally, footwear must be school appropriate--slippers and slipper socks are not permitted. Blankets also may not be worn in school.
Students may bring their cell phones to school but they must be turned off and put away during the day unless they are used as a part of a teacher-directed lesson in class. Same rules apply to Bluetooth headphones--they may not be worn during the school day.
If you need to reach your student during the school day, please contact the main office and our staff will convey a message or assist you in reaching your student.
