Layla Ellis Named Indiana Academic All-State
In order for students to receive this recognition they must meet the following criteria:
- The athlete must be a senior participating in an IHSAA girls' sport.
- The athlete must have a minimum GPA of 3.5 on 4.0 scale or equivalent. (Examples: 10.5on 12.0, 9.625 on 11.0, 8.75 on 10.0, 7.00 on 8.0, 5.25 on 6.0, 4.375 on 5.0, 87.5 on 100.)
- The athlete MUST have a minimum SAT score of 1110 on the critical reading (verbal) and math or a minimum ACT composite score of 24.
We are very proud of Layla and her accomplishments both on and off the golf course! Way to go!
SHS History Club and Tombstone Tales
Proud to highlight the collaborative effort between the SHS History Club and Sullivan Public Library during the Tombstone Tales event. Students engaged the community by portraying the lives of Sullivan County citizens in authentic period costumes, showcasing not only their talent but also a commitment to preserving local history. The positive feedback from attendees reflects the importance of such initiatives in fostering community connections.

The Science Education Foundation of Indiana
SEFI is a not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to encourage and assist young people to become scientists and engineers and to practice their professions in Indiana. The membership of the Board of Directors is composed of volunteers from industry, the not-for-profit sector, and academia who are committed to enhancing science education in Indiana. Our mission statement is embodied in deliverable outcomes.
Specifically, the youth of our state are encouraged and assisted through the following activities:
- Financing the Hoosier Science and Engineering Fair
- Providing financial support for Indiana students and teachers while they attend the Intel International Science Fair
- Connecting science students to Indiana colleges and universities

Join us for Carlisle's Annual Costume Parade and CES Trunk-or-Treat on October 31, 2024! We are seeking volunteers to help create a memorable experience for approximately 165 students. Volunteers should arrive by 1:45 PM with their themed and decorated vehicles, ready to distribute candy. Sullivan Elementary School
We are excited to announce SES's annual Trunk or Treat event on Thursday, October 31st. Setup will begin at 8:15 AM, with classes concluding by noon. We invite all community members to participate by sponsoring a decorated vehicle and distributing treats to our students. Please ensure you have a background check on file at SES. - 10/18-Football, Cross Country, Girls Golf Senior Night
- 10/22-FCA Be the Light Event at 7:00 PM in the SHS auditorium.
- 10/22-ATTENTION SENIORS: Cap and Gown pictures at 10:00 AM. The school will provide the cap and gown. Avoid wearing a hoodie or a neon colored shirt.
- 10/22-ATTENTION SENIORS: Senior panoramic picture at noon. Seniors should wear their senior shirts or a purple shirt.
- 10/24-SCHD vaccination clinic
- 10/31-Deposit due for anyone interested in seeing the Broadway musical, Six, this spring, see Mrs. Hollis!! She is planning an evening trip on March 6! See her ASAP!
- Archery practice for high school students will take place on Thursdays from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the SMS gymnasium.
- SHS students can take advantage of free tutoring from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
- Freshman student council forms can be picked up in the SHS office for those interested in running for office.
- The Sullivan County Health Department has shared updated guidelines on meningitis B vaccinations. The new protocol states that the 2nd dose must now be administered 6 months after the 1st dose, instead of the previous 1-month interval. This change could significantly impact seniors planning to attend colleges that require the Men B vaccine. It is essential for students to receive their 1st dose promptly to ensure they meet enrollment deadlines.
Sullivan Middle School
- 10/11-Sign-ups for Elks Hoop Shoot are due. Sign-up forms are on the table outside the office. Elks Hoop Shoot, is a free throw contest for ages 8-13. Age group is determined by contestant’s age as of April 1, 2025.
- 10/14-7th grade boys basketball practice begins for those not on Fall break.
- 10/21 & 10/22-Boys 6th grade basketball tryouts from 6:00 to 7:30pm in the SES gymnasium.

- 10/25-Beta Founder’s Day-Beta members should wear Founder’s Day shirts if they purchased one.
- 7th & 8th grade Cheer will have practices every Thursday from 3-4pm starting October 3rd.
- 7th & 8th Grade Girls Basketball will have Open Gym every Monday from 3pm to 4:30 PM in the SMS Gym. This is open to any girl interested in playing Basketball.
- The Kindness Club is organizing a Penny Wars fundraiser between the grade levels. All proceeds will be donated between the Flath Family & Woodson Branch Nature School.

- 10/22-Big Brothers Big Sisters program starts at 3 PM in the SES cafeteria. This is only for students who are signed up to participate. Participating students must have permission to stay via PickUp Patrol and must be picked up at Door 23 (south door behind the SES gym) at 4 PM. Parents will need to park, exit their vehicle, and pick students up at the door.
- 10/28-11/1-Scholastic Book Fair

11/18-Spell Bowl Competition at 5:30 PM. Spell bowl practices will be each week on Tuesdays after school until 4:10 PM. Plan changes must be made in Pickup Patrol stating students will stay after school for practice.

Homework Helps occurs on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students should be picked up at the front entrance at 4:00 PM. Parents should update Pick-Up Patrol if they intend for their child to stay.
