Up-cycled Chair Project
Julia, Sarah, Hannah and Dimphy
Stage 1
This is the condition that the chair was in upon arrival. It had several layers of paint with quite a bit chipped off.
Stage 2
We sanded most of the black paint off of the chair and it revealed the other layers of paint.
Stage 3
We finished sanding all paint off of the chair.
Stage 4
We fine-sanded the chair to give it a nice smooth surface for painting.
Stage 5
We started to coat the chair with primer.
Stage 6
We continued adding primer in needed areas.
Stage 7
We finished priming the chair, adding more in places that needed more coverage, in order to help the final paint color pop and apply smoothly.
FINAL PRIMED CHAIR
Further Steps
The next things we are going to do is paint the chair grey. We will make a cushion for our chair also. We are going to make the cushion out of a soft foam. We are going to add a floral flower patterned fabric. The cushion is going to be tied onto the seat. We want our chair to look neat and professional.
Stage 8
We painted the chair a light gray color.
Stage 9
Stage 10
Stage 11
We decided to make a no-sew cushion using hot glue.
Stage 12
The seams of the cushion turned out clean.
Stage 13
This is the final chair!
We tied the cushion to the chair using cream colored ribbons and tied them into bows.
This is the front view of the chair with the cushion on it.
Future Steps
We are very proud of this chair. We worked well as a team and collaborated to create a masterpiece. This idea was very practical and achieved with hard work and determination. We plan to submit this chair into TSA. After that it will reside in one of our homes.
