Research Support
If your student benefits from Special Education Services and you would be willing to help an educator complete their research for a PhD project please take a moment to review the flyer below for how a few minutes of your time can help.
For Review
If you read last week's Principal's Message in the Wednesday Note, congratulations—you are completely caught up! If you missed it or benefit from reminders, all the information below is still true and relevant and here for you to review!
WPA 2025-2026 Lottery- Open NOW
(This is for all NEW students, including SIBLINGS that have never attended WPA)
We are excited to open our lottery to new students on December 10th.
If you have a younger sibling entering our kindergarten program (or other grades) next year, please log in and register them NOW. We will be holding a sibling lottery on Monday the 16th, and we don’t want to miss your student.
Do you know someone who would love WPA? Our very best advertising for WPA has always come by word of mouth from WPA’s families. If you know of a family that would be a great fit for WPA, please take a moment to tell them what you like about our school and share our lottery link. You can also invite them to visit us by taking a tour. Please call the front office to make arrangements.
Subs and TA's
If you or someone you know enjoys working with children, values education and wants a school-friendly schedule, working at WPA may be a great fit. We are looking for TAs able to work Monday-Thursday 8:00-2:45 and Fridays from 8:00-12:45 and subs who can work as needed. If you are interested in these positions, please reach out to Mrs. Pilkington at apilkington@wasatchpeak.org
Weather, Road Conditions, and Late Starts
We consider many things when deciding to delay the start of school so students can arrive at school safely. When the decision has been made about delaying the start of school, we will notify parents via text message. (If you are not receiving our text messages, please contact the front office.) We also post this information on our social media pages. Because we take the same feedback on road conditions into consideration, it is very likely that if Davis School District is delaying the start of school, we will be doing the same. We also understand that some families travel from outside Davis County or have other unique travel situations. We ask that families use their best judgment regarding road conditions and make a safe arrival a priority, If Davis School District determines it is not safe to travel to school for the day we will offer online learning opportunities to WPA students for a distance learning day.
Cold and Flu...and Covid Season
Attendance is an influential factor that impacts a child's learning. As early as Kindergarten, missing school can have long-term effects on a child's education. A lot of research supports the goal for students to miss less than ten days per school year or less than one day per month. You can access your student's attendance through Aspire or contact the front office for additional details.
That being said, general guidelines for keeping your child home from school include.
- They have a fever above 101 degrees Fahrenheit within the past 24 hours
- They have had episodes of vomiting or diarrhea within the past 24 hours
- They are not well enough to participate in class
Winter Break
Winter break is right around the corner. There will be no school from December 21th- January 6th. We look forward to seeing our wonderful students again on January 7th. We hope you can enjoy the extra time with your family.
PBS November Reading Challenge- DUE December 31.
Every year PBS sponsors a reading challenge for students and rewards them for participating with a free adventure pass to get into 16 different museums, parks, zoos, etc., throughout the year. It is one of our favorite programs because it supports literacy through reading and exposure to various experiences that help build background knowledge in kids. You can find more details here.
Spelling Bee
We are excited to be hosting our annual spelling bee after the holiday breaks. We wanted to give kids a chance to start practicing now. You can access the Spelling Bee word list below.
Electronic Devices in School
Whit Holidays around the corner, and the gift purchasing season upon us, we want to offer a quick reminder of our electronic device polices. You can access our policy in full on our website.
Our Policy Defines Electronic Devices as…
"Electronic device" means a device that is used for audio, video, or text communication or any other type of computer or computer-like instrument including: a smart phone, a smart or electronic watch, a tablet, or a virtual reality device.
It also states….
Electronic devices, if brought to school, must remain out of sight in a bag or backpack and be turned off during the School day.
Mid-Year Testing
In the coming weeks, we will begin Interim RISE assessments. These assessments help us individualize and improve our instruction to all students. Following these tests we do occasionally make adjustments to classroom assignments in order to target the specific academic needs of student. If you have any questions regarding these assessments or class placements, please contact us.
Coats for Kids
The Bountiful City Rotary Coats for Kids program has several vouchers available to WPA families who need warm clothing for the year. These vouchers allow families to get warm weather clothing from Walmart for WPA students and their siblings at no cost to their parents. If your family would benefit from this program, please contact Mary Anne in the front office.
