September is already here, and learning is in full swing at Mountain View! Our teachers are continuing to use hallway greetings, morning meetings, and interactive lessons to help foster strong classroom communities. We have been reviewing our Mountain View expectations with kids during our morning announcements and you can ask them at home - when did they do these things at school this week?

All families must verify student registration through Parent Portal by September 27 so that we have updated contact information and permissions!

If you have not already done so:

1. Log In: Sign in to the PowerSchool Parent Portal. Contact your child’s school if you need an account.
2. Select Your Student: Choose the student to update.
3. Start Verification: Click on “Student Registration Verification” from the sidebar or the “Applications” icon.
4. Access the Form: Enter your child’s date of birth to verify your identity.
5. Review and Submit: Review the information, make any necessary changes, and submit the form.

If you interested in representing our school on Talent Development Advisory Committee this year, please fill out the Google form. This group provides input on the execution of ACPS' Local Plan for the Education of the Gifted. Members will meet in person four times a year at the Albemarle County Office Building (October 21, January 13, March 10, and May 19) from 5:00-6:00 p.m.

In collaboration with Black Bear Composting, Mountain View has successfully started composting in the cafeteria during all lunch periods. Students are getting a hands on learning experience about sustainability and the importance of taking care of our environment.

We need your help! We are looking for adult volunteers who can come on a regular basis to supervise composting in the cafeteria. You can spend 10-15 minutes eating with your child and the last 15 minutes standing by the compost bin to make sure students sort food correctly. Mrs. Lundgren will meet with adults beforehand to explain the procedure and how to help. If you are interested, please complete this form with the times you are available and Mrs. Lundgren will contact you with more information.

All students will have their pictures taken by Strawbridge on Wednesday, September 25 and you can order pictures if you would like to buy them. Look for a flyer coming home from school, or follow these instructions to order online. You can sign up here to receive updates directly from Strawbridge.

Due to the shortage of space on our school buses, students can not ride on a bus with a friend if it is not a bus they usually ride.

Does your child use an inhaler or EpiPen? Do they take a daily medication? If your child takes medication at school, you must submit a Medication Authorization Form, available online in English and Spanish, or you can get a paper copy in the office. We cannot give medication without this form on file for the 2024 - 2025 school year.

• First PTO meeting (in-person and virtual): Join us Tuesday, September 10, for the first PTO meeting of the year at 6:30 PM at MVES. Hear from school leadership, meet other parents, and connect with the MVES community. Childcare and Spanish translation will be provided. If you can’t join us in person, join us virtually via Zoom.
• Restaurant night: Forget the cooking! Grab some dinner at Chick-Fil-A (Pantops location) on September 16. Use code MTNPTO from 5-8 pm and the PTO will earn 15% of the proceeds.
• Teacher appreciation: We need your help in supporting our wonderful teachers! We are hosting a salad bar luncheon for our staff on September 20 and need volunteers. Sign up here.
• Fundraiser alert: It’s always a good idea to label your kids stuff! Shop Name Bubbles through our special school link and support the PTO with every purchase. It’s a win-win!
