SCAT AND TRACK CONSERVATION EDUCATION PROGRAM
Mrs. Emmons Kindergarten classroom participated in this year's Scat and Track Conservation Education Program through the State of Vermont (Fish and Wildlife). It is a program to raise awareness and knowledge about the wildlife here in Vermont and to get students to think about wildlife habitats and its connectivity to learning outside and having fun. The children received track cards in the mail to take on their adventures and to then take home and share with their families to track with them. Each week in the month of January we received a video of a new Vermont animal to learn about and ask questions ( if we wanted in a live zoom meeting). We choose to send our questions through email. The children learned about the Virginia Opossum, Eastern Coyote, Porcupine and the Short-tailed Weasel (ermine). Mrs. Emmons Kindergarteners went on two different scat and track hikes on the SACS property, around the chicken coop, near the garden, down the path, and most importantly two different adventures into the woods. The second time we also found massive trees had come down from the wind storm and blocked the trail which meant climbing over fallen trees and walking through the brush. The kids and teachers had an amazing time. The kids also recorded their tracks in their science journals. IT WAS AWESOME.

WORLD READ ALOUD DAY
FEBRUARY 7, 2024
For over a decade, World Read Aloud Day has called attention to the importance of sharing stories by challenging participants to grab a book, find an audience, and read-aloud! The global effort, created by the non-profit LitWorld and sponsored by Scholastic, is celebrated annually in over 173 countries and is all about bringing people together through the shared connection of reading aloud in all of our communities. We are encouraging adults at home to read aloud to their children, not just on World Read Aloud Day, but everyday!
