From the Principal
Happy National Hispanic Heritage Month
It was wonderful to see so many families at the Fall Picnic this week. The weather couldn't have been better and the magician was for sure a crowd favorite. I look forward to more family fun in the coming months.
Families now that we are a month into school, students will be entering school on their own. Family members please remain at the blacktop as your child enters the building with their peers. The more our students know we trust them to do more on their own and to be more independent the more confident they become. Going forward adults are not allowed in the building during morning drop off.
As a reminder, it is IMPERATIVE that your child arrives on time. If getting to school at 8:30 for breakfast helps you with your morning routine please choose this earlier start. We have adult supervision in the cafeteria beginning at 8:30 each and every day.
Please help your child and the Burns Park staff have a great start to their day by ensuring that your child arrives to Burns Park before BEFORE 8:45 each and every day.
*Tuesday, September 24th is an Early Release Day. All students are dismissed at 1:00. Please make sure that your family has a plan for Tuesday and all members are aware of this early release day plan.
Upcoming This Week:
Tuesday, Fire Drill #1, Early Release Day at 1:00
Wednesday, Severe Weather Drill #1
Friday, Picture Day
Take care & Be well,
Principal Bullock

Helping Your Child During a Mental Health Crisis
All students in grades K-5 will take the NWEA test (3) times each year. The Fall Testing window is now open. This online test will provide teachers, families and the district with a beginning of the year data point in reading and math. Teachers use this, along with other data points, to form small groups for instruction. *All students who have current IEP and 504 plans will have their testing accommodations administered.
From The Burns Park PTO
Hello BPE PTO Families,
We hope everyone who was able to come enjoyed the 3rd Annual Fall Picnic! Our next PTO Meeting will be Tuesday, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. via Zoom. The notes from the September meeting are available here.
ANN ARBOR PTO THRIFT SHOP
The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift shop is a non-profit which provides support to all AAPS PTOs from their sales. Every academic year, each school is also assigned one Saturday when 10 percent of proceeds are earned for that specific school. BPE’s day will be December 21. The Ann Arbor PTO Thrift shop is located at 2284A S. Industrial Hwy, Ann Arbor, MI 48104 and open for shopping 10 am-6 p.m. Thursday-Sunday. Check the website for donation times.
WALK & TALK RETURNS THIS WEEK
Walk & Talk is an optional lunch recess activity where students in grades 1-5 can choose to walk or run together around a specified loop in Burns Park. For miles completed, kids earn "toe tags" they collect on a chain and wear proudly! Students are motivated not only by the toe tags themselves but also by their friends, the fresh air, exercise and the encouragement of parent/adult family volunteers. Coaches are needed on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays during lunch recess to organize and distribute student lap cards, keep track of laps completed, and distribute toe tags.
Sign up here to spend your lunchtime encouraging fitness while getting to know all the awesome students at Burns Park!
VOLUNTEERS STILL NEEDED!
We are recruiting volunteers for the 2024-25 school year, including Art Angels; Library Helpers; Lunch Recess Helpers; Disability Awareness Workshop (4th Graders); Family Giving Committee; Fifth Grade Capstone; Lost & Found; Science Olympiad; Staff Appreciation; Special Events (Burns Park Run, Ice Cream Social, Field Day, etc.); Yearbook Committee and MORE. Fill out the Volunteer Interest Form so you can learn about and connect to opportunities. Learn more about our committees and how you can help here.
There are a range of opportunities available to help in many capacities and various commitment levels. We appreciate any time and talents you are able to lend. If you have any questions, reach out to Volunteer Coordinator Kathy Brzoznowski at volunteering@bpepto.org.
JOIN THE PTO DIRECTORY
The PTO website has a Directory that allows families to create an account and share contact details and class information, enabling parents to reach out to each other within class, grade level, etc. to set up playdates and otherwise foster a sense of community. Our current PTO directory is opt-in, meaning that families have to proactively create an account on our site to join. Returning families need to update their class assignments and new families should definitely sign up!
