Get ready for March! March brings many exciting activities to Rainbow.The week of 3/4-3/8 will be Read Across Rainbow Week. We will celebrate the importance of literacy with a Readers are Superheroes parent engagement night and a Spirit Week to celebrate the importance of reading.

Mark your calendars! Rainbow Elementary School Title I Parent Engagement Event
Reading is your superpower!
You will have an opportunity to take a picture with a Superhero and receive a free book!
When: Wednesday, March 6, 2024
Where: Rainbow’s LGR
Time: 6:00pm -8:00pm
Children must be accompanied by an adult.
While Rainbow's PTO will provide a treat, feel free to bring a snack/drink to enjoy during the movie.

February PAW Recipients
- Addison Butler: Ms. Ruser shared that Addison is a kind, respectful and responsible student. She always tries her best and works hard throughout the day. She is a role model and leader in the classroom and exemplifies the Wildcat Code.
- Ryan Ortiz Malo: Mrs. Ferretti-Smith shared that Ryan is a model student who always follows the Wildcat Code. Ryan is respectful of all people. He follows the expectations the first time. He is a friend to everyone. He has a very kind heart that sees the best in everyone.
- Emileigh Bailey: Ms. Adamski shared that Emileigh has proven she has what it takes to be a strong yet kind leader that always embodies the respectful, responsible, and safe code at Rainbow through her effort to complete work even when it gets tough.
- Emery Crowley: Ms. Braccia shared that Emery is a kind, respectful, responsible, and safe Wildcat to her peers and teachers. She works hard and is a leader for her classroom when following expectations and learning throughout academic time.
- Madison Norris: Mrs. Keller shared that Madison is kind to all her peers everyday at school. Madison is respectful,responsible, and safe at school daily. She follows all classroom rules and expectations throughout the school day.
- Marley Simons: Ms. Quinlan shared that Marley is kind and energic learner. He is respectful to all and offers a helping hand to those in need. His kind heart brightens up any gloomy day.
- AJ Shaw: Ms. Hendricks shared that A.J. is always friendly, helpful, and kind to others. He tries his best in school and loves to participate! A.J. is an excellent example of what it means to be a Rainbow Wildcat.
- Ge'Vonie White: Mrs. Chmielecki shared that Ge'Vonie represents the Wildcat Code on a daily basis. He offers kindness to everyone he meets and will often give a peer an object or his turn just to do a kind deed. He uses his manners and is very respectful to his peers and teachers. He is a role model to his peers on spreading kindness and respecting others. Way to go Ge'Vonie!
- Braxton Stewart: Mrs. Luckowski shared that Braxton is a role model to his peers. He follows the Wildcat code everyday. He shows responsibility with all his classwork, is respectful to peers and adults, and is always using safe body while here at Rainbow!
- Londyn Gutierrez- Lewis: Mrs. Rickabaugh shared that Londyn is a strong student and always excited to learn new things. She is a great leader and leads by example.
- Alaina Benner-Smith: Mrs. Holden shared that Alaina always comes to art class with a positive attitude and a bunch of creativity! She puts a lot of effort into her artwork and to following the Wildcat Code. She's a wonderful artist to have in class!
- Daniela Garcia Zavala: Mrs. Goldberg shared that Daniela follows the wildcat code and is always respectful to others and responsible.
- Lana Lucas: Mrs. Johns shared that she enjoys having Lana in PE! She always follows the Wildcat Code and is enthusiastic in class. Way to go, Lana!
- Anthony Ali: Dr. Bisazza shared that In reading group, Anthony always follows the Wildcat code. He works very hard to read new words and stories. Because of his hard work, he is sure to grow as a reader!
- Nuri Thompson - Mrs. Elicker says that you are excited about Science! She has amazing insights and is always Responsible, Respectful, and Safe!
- Kendra Lopez - Mrs. Elicker shared that you are an amazing Wildcat during Stem class!

Getting Ready for PSSA Grades 3-5
The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania requires all school districts to administer the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment (PSSA) in English language arts, mathematics, and science. The dates of the testing windows established by the PA Department of Education (PDE) are listed here so that you are aware of the upcoming testing.
- English Language Arts – April 22-April 26 (grades 3 - 5)
- Math – April 29-April 30 (grades 3 - 5)
- Science - May 1 and May 2 (grade 4 only)
While assessment scores represent a snapshot in time of student performance and should not be considered the sole indicator of student achievement, your students participation in testing is important. Data obtained from each assessment serves as one of the tools for planning school programs, designing curriculum and instruction, and providing information to the public.

The purpose of the Elementary Discipline Code is to assist students in developing a positive attitude toward self-discipline, regular attendance and socially accepted behavior. The Elementary Discipline Code is intended to ensure that each student has the opportunity to benefit from the maintenance of a learning environment that is safe, conducive to learning and is free from unnecessary distractions. Your child attends Rainbow Elementary School, which receives Federal Title I funds to assist students in meeting state achievement standards. Throughout the school year, we will be providing you with important information about this law and your child’s education. Please review the attachments informing you about your right to request information about the qualifications of the classroom staff working with your child.
In Case you Missed it!
ATSI Plan Update
Dear Rainbow Families,
As you know, Pennsylvania has identified Rainbow Elementary School as an ATSI school. ATSI schools are required to submit annual improvement plans to the state. Rainbow’s ATSI plan identifies and addresses root causes for performance concerns and indicates evidence-based practices for sustained improvement of learning.
Earlier this year, Rainbow’s Leadership team shared a video explaining Rainbow’s improvement plan and quarterly targets. The purpose of this communication is to share the second quarter ATSI plan progress with Rainbow families.
I am proud to share with our families that Rainbow students met ATSI quarterly progress goals. By the mid-year benchmark administered in January, 25% of students in each grade level K-5 made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth as indicated by the Acadience Math Pathways of Progress report. As you can see with the grade level data below, students exceeded this goal.
K- 70% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
1- 71% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
2- 51% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
3- 56% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
4- 40% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
5- 47% of students made typical, above typical, or well above typical growth
Students also met and exceeded the goal set for reading! By January 26, 2024, 40% of students in each grade level K-5 were at or above benchmark as determined by the Acadience Universal Screener in reading.
K- 66% of students were at or above benchmark
1- 58% of students were at or above benchmark
2- 53% of students were at or above benchmark
3- 55% of students were at or above bencmark
4- 52% of students were at or above benchmark
5- 54% of studetns were at or above benchmark
This progress reflects the hard work and dedication of our teachers and students during MTSS (Multi-Tiered Systems of Support) reading intervention. This growth could not be achieved without the support of our families. Thank you for all that you do to support your student’s academic growth and achievement at home.
