Colder Weather is Here
I know it might be hard to believe with these warmer fall temperatures we are getting.
As we gear up for colder temperatures please make sure your student brings the proper winter gear with them to school. We go outside each day unless it is raining or below 0 for a classroom recess and a lunch recess. It helps if your student's items are labeled as well, so if things end up in the lost & found they can be returned!
Students need to have warm clothing, including winter coat, hat, gloves/mittens, boots, snow pants. These items can be expensive, if you need help please write in a note in your child's school agenda for their teacher. We can see how we can help.
In the event of a future 2 hour delay here is the schedule
CAPTURING KIDS' HEARTS
Family Survey - Capturing Kids' Hearts
Please take this family CKH survey for us.
MPPS is in their second year of implementing Capturing Kids' Hearts this year, we would like to get some information from families on how we are doing. We hope students are sharing with you at home about things they do in class to build connections, empathy, and relationships with peers and staff. Please take this 14 question survey that will only take about 5-7 minutes of your time. Thank you for your time.

SOAR - Safety. Ownership. Attitude. Respect
Fancher Falcons SOAR
We kicked of the new school year at Fancher Elementary teaching and learning SOAR (Safety Ownership Attitude Respect), to teach and reinforce positive behavior expectations in all areas of the school from the classroom to the playground. Each area of our school day, has a focused set up positive expectations that we teach, model, and practice - on what Safety looks like, Ownership, Attitude, and Respect.
Our SOAR matrix is at the front of your student's agenda in the pages include for the student handbook, we encourage you to review these expectations at home with your child too.
Daily our students earning Dojo Points for meeting positive expectations, we recognize students who are SOARing with our Fancher School Store, Positive Office Referrals, Positive Postcards mailed home, and SOAR Student Shout Outs each month.
We know our students are still growing and developing mentally and socially, so we recognize it is always a work in progress when teaching and reteaching expectations. We utilize restorative practices - including repairing the harm, circle ups, and more.
We appreciate your partnership in supporting our Fancher Falcons to SOAR!

SAFETY
Safety Emergency Drills
Students have now practiced each part of our lockdown protocol. We have practiced 4 Fire Drills as a building and 2 Lockdown Drills.
During the school year, our buildings are obligated to practice at least 5 Fire Drills, 2 Tornado Drills and 3 Lockdown drills. At times, we do have our YSU Liason or other police officers from the Police Department assist in our drills. We cover with our students the locations of where to go for each drill, what to do during specific drills, and how to properly evacuate when it is needed. You can also find this information in your child's Handbook in the front of the student agenda.
I encourage you to check out our district website where we have information that pertains to our district school safety. Click here to get to the website.
Youth Services Unit Monthly Update
What can I do to keep from being a victim of violent crime?
Here are some basic personal safety tips from the National Crime Prevention Council:
Always tell someone where you are going and when you will return.
Wherever you are, stay alert and tuned into your surroundings.
Trust your instincts. If something or someone makes you uneasy, avoid the person or leave.
Know the neighborhoods where you live, go to school, and shop. Check out the locations of police and fire stations, public telephones, hospitals, and businesses that stay open late.
Stick to well-traveled streets; avoid short-cuts through wooded areas, parking lots, or alleys.
Carry only the money you’ll need on a particular day and don’t display large amounts of cash or other tempting targets such as hand-held electronic games or expensive jewelry and clothing.
Try to use automated teller machines (ATMs) in the daytime. Have your card in hand and don’t approach the machine if you feel uneasy about the people nearby.
If you think someone is following you, switch directions or cross the street. If the person continues to follow you, move quickly toward an open store or restaurant, a lighted house, or, even better, a fire house or police station. Don’t be afraid to blow your horn or yell for help.
Try to park in well-lighted areas with good visibility and close to walkways, stores, and people.
Make sure you have your key out as you approach your door.
Always lock your car, even if it’s in your own driveway; never leave your motor running.
If someone tries to rob you, give up your property – don’t give up your life.
If you are robbed or assaulted, report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker accurately. Your actions can help prevent someone else from becoming a victim.
