Notes from Mrs. Riehman
Dear Lake Louise Families,
Welcome to December! We want to express our sincere gratitude to all who attended Parent-Teacher Conferences this past week. We value the opportunity to connect with you and discuss your child's progress. Huge thanks to the PTA for their generous sponsorship of the fall assembly, Mousetrap Machine Show. The event was both entertaining and informative, highlighting the significance of simple machines in our daily lives.
On November 21st, we conducted our first lockdown safety drill of the school year with the Palatine Police Department. The drill was a success, and students did a great job following the necessary safety procedures.
As we approach the winter break, the next few weeks will be busy and exciting. We are looking forward to the Lake Louise Winter Chorus Concert this Thursday, December 5th at 6:30 p.m. The Lake Louise PTA brings the holiday shopping fun during the Penguin Patch Holiday Shop, December 9th - 12th. Our annual Lake Louise Spelling Bee will take place on Thursday, December 12th. Classroom winners from the 4th and 5th grades will compete to see who will represent Lake Louise in the District 15 Spelling Bee.
On December 13th, the first progress reports of the year for grades K-5 will be issued via the Infinite Campus Parent Portal after 4:00 PM. Please log in to review your child's academic progress.
Don't forget to bundle up your child for the cold weather! Please send a coat, hat, gloves, and boots to school each day. We'll be outside for recess as long as the temperature with wind-chill stays above 0°F. It's also a good idea to send an extra pair of socks and pants, just in case.
It's always a great day at The Lake!

Weather Conditions and Recess
Elementary students generally go outside for recess every day. Therefore, they should dress appropriately for the weather. Exceptions are made only when a child brings a doctor’s note excusing them from outdoor recess.
Cold weather: Indoor recess is determined based on the following guidelines:
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is below 0°F, all students will remain inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is between 0°–10°F, the preferred procedure is a rotation of 20 minutes for lunch, a 20-minute outdoor recess, and a 20-minute indoor recess. However, at the principal’s discretion, the students may be kept inside for the entire lunch hour.
If the temperature outside, together with the wind chill, is above 10°F, students will have regular outdoor recess.
