FAFSA/WASFA Financial Aid Are Now Open
The FAFSA application is now open 24/7! If you are attending any type of education after high school, you should start your financial aid search by filling out either the FAFSA or the WASFA. To apply for financial aid from the government or from the colleges you are applying to, you need to fill out one of the two following applications. Either the 2024-25 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) or the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid - The WASFA is for people who are undocumented or who do not qualify for federal aid because of their immigration status). Do not file both. Colleges all have a deadline to fill out the FAFSA/WASFA. Please check to see what their new deadline is for the FAFSA/WASFA.
Tips for filling out the FAFSA https://studentaid.gov/apply-for-aid/fafsa/filling-out
Complete the FAFSA https://studentaid.gov/h/apply-for-aid/fafsa.
Complete the WASFA https://wsac.wa.gov/wasfa.
If you need to create a username and password (students or parents/guardians) to access the FAFSA https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch.
What is new and what to expect after you submit your FAFSA https://studentaid.gov/announcements-events/fafsa-support.
If you need help getting started on the FAFSA or WASFA please contact Mrs. Stapleton.
What Is the FAFSA/WASFA
In Washington, there are two different applications for financial aid, but you only complete one. Seniors complete the 2024 – 25 FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) if you are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Complete the WASFA (Washington Application for State Financial Aid) if you are not eligible to complete the FAFSA due to immigration status. To fill out the FAFSA, a student and parent/guardian must both make an FSA ID (username and password), unless the parent/guardian already has one. I am asking seniors to go to the Create An Account page and answer the questions to make their FSA ID.
