8:00am start for 2024-25 school year
After presenting the data and a healthy discussion (including current students), the SGT voted for an 8:00am start time for the 2024-25 school year. We recognize this will be a significant change for all and we are here to support this transition as best we can. School will be 8:00am - 2:30pm on MTWF and 8:00 - 1:00pm on Thursdays. The PrimeTime Application is below and we strongly recommend that you apply now if you will need after school care. Students who attend PrimeTime must show up everyday for a minimum of 30 minutes to maintain their spot. Please email Ms. Rachel at deportolapt@ymcasd.org for questions regarding PrimeTime.
Also, don't forget that school starts a week early this year. The first day of school will be on Monday, August 12, 2024 at 8:00am. Panther Orientation will be on Thursday, August 8 from 3:00 - 4:30pm.
Panther Parent Bowling - last day to by tickets is 4/23.
We will head to SDSU this Friday night for our annual Panther Bowling night. You $60 includes salad, pizza, cookies, a drink coupon, unlimited bowling for two hours, and shoe rental. All that added with good company is the perfect equation to stand united as we finish these final weeks of school. There will be several staff in attendance...so many you can get your kid some extra credit. Ha! Ha! Just kidding!! Click here to secure your spot.
The last day to purchase tickets is Tuesday, April 23 at 6:00pm.
Writer's Corner
Our “Open Mic Night” is ON!! That means we have 6 sessions to write and practice! If your child is interested in joining Writers’ Corner, please email Mrs. Soto-Nauta at esoto@sandi.net. We will meet every Tuesday, after school, from 4:00-5:00 PM starting April 23rd, with one class landing on Thursday, May 23rd. (I don’t mind if the students come as soon as school ends). This is a free course, thanks to De Portola’s Foundation. Thank you, DP Foundation!
Yearbook pre-sales will end on Friday, May 17th
We encourage students to buy their yearbook before that date at www.yearbookforever.com for $60. Students will be able to buy a yearbook again starting Monday, June 3rd AFTER the pre-ordered yearbooks have been distributed.
From June 3rd on, students WILL NOT bring in cash, they will purchase the yearbook online at www.yearbookforever.com. When they come to school the next day, they will go to the financial office and Ms. Dora will give them their purchased yearbook. Please email Ms. McIntosh at smcintosh@sandi.net with any questions.
Spring Open House & Book Fair
We will have Spring Open House on Wednesday May 1, 2024 from 5:30 - 6:30. All classrooms will be open and families can determine what classes they want to attend and how long they want to stay. Each classroom will have a showcase of student work highlighting all their accomplishments over the year. Kona Ice will be available for purchase. Additionally, there will be a Buy One Get One Book Fair in the library. Make it easier for your child to make purchases by signing up for eWallet.
Promotion on June 6
Promotion will be on June 6 starting promptly at 9:15 and ending around 10:00am. The promotion is on the black top and seating is first come, first serve. There are no ticket limits. However, current De Portola 6th and 7th graders are not allowed to attend even if they are siblings or family members. Siblings can be released from class for family photos after the ceremony has ended. Please see the eligibility requirements below for our 8th graders. If you have any concerns about eligibility, please email your child's counselor and or teachers.
STATE TESTING & Laptop Care
We will participate in state testing from May 7 - 17. Please avoid scheduling appointments (dr. dentist, ortho) before noon during these two weeks. We will send our our Testing Bell Schedule as we get closer. Thank you in advance for your support.
Students are responsible for the daily care of laptops. They must bring their laptops fully charged each day. We have seen an increase in damaged laptops. Improper care of laptops may result in fines to replace screens or the whole computer.
