February Focus
February is upon us, and while winter's chill is still very much present, I can't help but feel a hint of spring in the air. The days are slowly getting longer, and the promise of warmer weather is on the horizon. Even as we navigate the remaining weeks of winter – and let’s be prepared for whatever weather it may bring! – we’re also busy planning for the future and celebrating the many accomplishments of our students and staff.
Speaking of accomplishments, I want to extend a huge congratulations to Lancer Productions on their fantastic winter theater production! The performances were truly impressive, showcasing the incredible talent and dedication of our students and the hard work of our directors and support teams. Bravo to everyone involved!
We've also had some exciting achievements in our extracurricular activities. Our girls wrestling team continues to make strides and demonstrate their strength and resilience with 5 state individuals qualifiers! 8th place finish by Sage Dzeladini! Their dedication and sportsmanship are truly inspiring. Similarly, our NS Guild of Gears #6603 Robotics Team is showcasing their ingenuity and problem-solving skills in competitions. It’s wonderful to see our students engaging in such challenging and rewarding activities.
As we move forward, we'll continue to keep you updated on important district news and initiatives. We are committed to providing our students with the best possible educational experience and appreciate your continued support. We are actively planning for the future and are excited to share more details as they develop.
While winter still has a bit of a hold on us, remember that spring is just around the corner. We look forward to the warmer days ahead and the many opportunities they will bring.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Joe Stutting, Superintendent

Lancer Lookout with SRO Jahns
If you are unfamiliar with Ding-Dong Ditch it's a prank that is somewhat harmless but not a victimless prank where someone rings a doorbell of a residence and either runs away or hides in the proximity of the front door to witness the confusion of said resident when they are looking
for a visitor that is not there.
Some people laugh if they get duped, and others get frustrated when it happens because, depending
on the reaction, they can fall victim multiple times in an evening.
IS DING DONG DITCHING ILLEGAL IN IOWA?
In Iowa, there isn't a direct law that states whether the prank is illegal or not, however, there are laws
one can break by just committing the prank by being on someone’s property.
HARASSMENT:
Iowa law defines harassment as actions that repeatedly cause someone distress, fear, or anxiety. For example: if the person being pranked starts feeling anxious or alarmed because of the behavior, it could be considered harassment under Iowa’s law. This form of harassment is a simple misdemeanor, meaning one could be fined, be subject to probation, or spend up to 30 days in jail.
DISORDERLY CONDUCT:
If your prank causes a public disturbance, a student could also get charged with disorderly
conduct, which is also a simple misdemeanor.
TRESPASSING:
If you actually step onto someone’s property to ring the doorbell or knock on the door without justification, the homeowner could seek trespassing charges. Even though it seems like innocent fun, “ding dong ditching” can have consequences in Iowa if it crosses the line into harassment or
other disruptive behavior. Remember THE LANCER WAY, try to think about how it might affect someone else before you decide to prank them!
This is Officer Jahns, asking you to make safe and responsible choices when deciding how you are going to prank a friend or neighbor.
