École Sifton Admin Message:
Hello everyone and happy new year!
We are so excited to be back in school here at École Sifton! We hope that everyone took time to spend moments with family, friends, and loved ones. Now that we are back, we are going to be spending the first few days getting back into the routine of things. We find that after holidays, students will sometimes have a hard time adjusting to the schedule and routine of school days. If your child is having a hard time, reach out to their teacher to see if there is anything we can do to help. We know that after two weeks, people form habits again, so we generally see students get back into the swing of things by then!
Please take a look at the important dates as we have early dismissal this week and we have a collaboration day at the end of January! We also have hot lunches, parent council, and other events coming up!
Take Care Everyone!

Important Information
Cold Weather
A reminder that school start time is at 8:45, and buses arrive at the school at 8:30. We have staff outside for student supervision in the morning starting at 8:25.
With the weather getting colder we would like to remind everyone that our cut off for outside recess is anything below -20C. So if it is below -20 we will not be sending students outside during the recess times, unless they are part of the Polar Bear Club.
What is the Polar Bear Club?
Members of The Polar Bear Club will have the opportunity to go outside on days we would normally call inside recesses (-20 up until -27). Students with signed consent forms would be able to go outside with a supervisor for a maximum of 10-15 minutes during recess time, as long as they are properly dressed and have the consent form signed and handed in. Watch for information coming home soon about this opportunity for students.
Bus Cancellations
Battle River School Division follows an administrative procedure (AP 555)
around bus cancellations due to inclement weather. See blow for information regarding temperature:
AP 555 - 2.1 Temperature
2.1.1 Bus Routes will be cancelled when the air temperature reaches -40 degrees Celsius;
2.1.2 Bus Routes will be cancelled when the air temperature combined with wind chill reaches -40 degrees Celsius.
2.1.3 Air temperature and wind chill will be determined by accessing www.theweathernetwork.com and viewing the information for the town/village in which the school is located. This website displays temperature and wind chill for each area in the Division.
2.1.4 The information acquired above shall be obtained just prior to the bus route, not the night before. However, in extreme conditions, the Director of Transportation may make the decision the night before.
Reminder if buses are cancelled in the morning they will not run in the afternoon.
A great big THANK YOU / MERCI to all the families and friends that attended our winter concerts in December. The staff and students worked hard on their productions and it was wonderful to see such a great turn out to all our shows.
Chess Club
We are getting a Chess club started here at Sifton, and in need of a few more chess boards. If you have a chess set/board that you would like to donate please contact the office. We greatly appreciate the support.
École Sifton School Art Club
Mme Kendall and Mme Graves are looking forward to inviting students to register in an after school art club. The focus of the club will be the study and exploration of diverse Canadian artists. The art club will be instructed by Mme Kendall who has a BFA from Emily Carr University of Art & Design, and a MA in Art Education from Concordia University in Montreal. As a grand finale and to showcase the wonderful works completed, there will be an art show hosted by École Sifton School later in the school year.
Only dedicated students are encouraged to consider joining. No experience is necessary as all levels of artists are welcome.
More information will be shared in the formal Art Club registration newsletter that will be sent home in a couple weeks.
