News From The Principal
Hello Explorer Families,
Can you believe that October is already here? We are already one month into school. Our first month of school has been amazing. Our Explorers are working so hard each day at school. With the fall comes fall weather. At Broad View, we go outside in most weather. This includes some rain and sometimes snow. Please make sure to send your child dressed for the weather each day. If you have any missing coats, sweaters, etc. please visit our lost and found near the entryway of our school. If your family needs help getting your child a coat please see Mrs. Tang. Her contact number is 360.279.5270.
I would like to emphasize the importance of regular attendance at school. Each school day offers a world of learning and growth opportunities for your child. Attending school every day helps them keep up with lessons, build strong friendships, and develop important life skills. Research shows that students who come to school regularly tend to perform better academically and are better prepared for their future. Let's work together to make sure your child is here every day, ready to seize the exciting adventures of learning and growing at our school. If your child is experiencing any barriers to attending school on a regular basis please reach out and let us know how we can help.
I hope you all have a wonderful October.

News from the Library
Hello BVE Families,
It has been a great start to the year and as always, we love having students back in the library! We have been going over library rules and expectations and how to take care of books. Please help your student remember to bring back their books on their library day or renew their books for another week if they aren’t done reading them. We have also introduced our awesome Book Vending Machine and how to earn a Golden Ticket so they can come down to the library and choose a book to take home. We are excited about the wonderful year we have planned in the library!
Happy Reading!
Mrs. Ronning
Our SOAR program begins in October. Each child in 1st - 4th grades at Broad View receives reading instruction at their level. Students who receive LAP or Title reading support, resource reading support, and those on or above grade level are all engaged in small group reading instruction at the same time as their grade level peers. This prevents students from missing any core instruction in their classrooms and ensures that ALL students benefit from our Title and LAP programs.
Please look for the SOAR section of this year’s monthly Broad View newsletters for tips and tricks on how to support your readers at home.
As your LAP and Title teachers, we are here to partner with you in meeting your child’s reading needs.

Family Fitness Tip
PERFECT ROASTED PUMPKIN SEEDS
INGREDIENTS
- ¾ cup raw pumpkin seeds
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- ½ teaspoon kosher salt
- ¼ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon paprika, optional
- ⅛ teaspoon black pepper
INSTRUCTIONS
Preheat oven to 350°F
Wash pumpkin seeds in a colander to remove the pulp and fibers. Thoroughly dry with a towel.
In a small bowl combine pumpkin seeds, olive oil, salt, garlic powder, paprika (if using), and black pepper.
Lightly grease a sheet pan with olive oil. Evenly spread the seasoned pumpkin seeds on the sheet pan.
Bake until the seeds are toasted and crunchy, about 12 to 15 minutes. Stir every 5 minutes for even toasting, and check for doneness with each stir by tasting a seed for crunchiness.
Transfer the roasted pumpkin seeds to a bowl to cool down.
Attendance Matters
Good attendance helps children do well in school and eventually in the workplace. Good attendance matters for school success, starting as early as prekindergarten and throughout elementary school. By middle and high school, poor attendance is a leading indicator of dropout. Developing the habit of attendance prepares students for success on the job and in life. We are lucky to have such great families at Broad View that partner with us to make sure students are at school every day.
