1st Six Weeks 09/04/24 to 10/11/24
Dear Parents/Guardians:
On behalf of the staff at St. Anthony School, we are happy to welcome you to the 2024-25 school year! We are looking forward to a productive partnership with you to ensure our children can achieve their highest potential. We recognize that in order to be successful in school, our children need support from both the home and school. We know a strong partnership with you will make a great difference in your child’s education. As partners, we share the responsibility for our children’s success and want you to know that we will do our very best to carry out our responsibilities. We ask that you guide and support your child’s learning by ensuring that he/she:
- Attends school daily and arrives on time, ready for the day’s learning experience
- Completes all homework assignments given by teachers
- Reads daily to develop a love for reading and to improve literacy skills
- Shares school experiences with you so that you are aware of his/her school life
- Informs you if he/she needs additional support in any area or subject
- Knows that you expect him/her to succeed in school and go on to college
Attached you will find a copy of our school rules so that you and your child can review them together. If you have any questions about the rules and expectations, please feel free to contact us. It is very important that you and your child are fully informed regarding standards related to appropriate behavior for a safe and productive school year.
We thank you for your continued support.
Sincerely,
The Middle School Teachers & Admin Staff

Friendly Reminders
Children are not perfect. Chances are your child will struggle at some point with a task, a concept or a subject while at school. In those moments it will be helpful for them to know that they don't have to be the best at everything, but they must try their hardest. Saying these words will also keep your child from feeling self-conscious when others do well. There is no need for comparison, just do your best.

1ST 6 WEEKS OF 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR
SKILLS ALL GRADES WILL BE WORKING ON IN THE 1ST 6 WEEKS OF THE 2024-25 SCHOOL YEAR:
The first unit bundles student expectations that address a study of literary works, specifically fiction and literary/narrative nonfiction. These genres represent narratives, or stories, that include literary elements and devices. Readers read both fictional and nonfiction narratives in order to learn about the world by making connections to literary elements such as character, setting, plot, etc.
Reading: students read, respond to/write about, and discuss multiple fiction and literary/narrative nonfiction texts. Students study the concepts of author’s message (theme), literary elements (plot) and devices (figurative language), genre characteristics and author’s craft. Students read a variety of texts representing different narrative perspectives in order to understand the impact literary elements and devices have on the authors’ messages. They then practice utilizing these elements and devices in their own writing.
Writing: students engage in writing process as they brainstorm, draft, revise, edit, and publish an original personal narrative or fictional short story. Students apply author’s craft learned during reading comprehension activities and assignments to their own writing products.
