Mrs. Maslyk's Message
We are welcoming warmer weather and all the signs of springtime now in Wadsworth! We hope winter coats, hats, and gloves will no longer be needed in the coming days.
Next week, on April 18 and 19, our third and fourth-grade students take their state tests for ELA & Math. Remember that grades K, 1, and 2 will not report to school these days. Please avoid scheduling appointments on these testing days and let us know of any absences so we can arrange for makeup testing. Our students have been well prepared for these assessments; we know they will do their best. You can help by ensuring that your child gets a good night's sleep the night before each assessment. Breakfast will be served by our fabulous PTO FREE OF CHARGE beginning at 8:45 am for all staff and students on both mornings before state testing begins.
A special thank you to all who helped with our Scholastic Book Fair/Open House & Ice Cream Social. I know how proud our students were to show off their hard work! Also, a big thank you for helping us reach our goal of selling 400 plants and flowers for our spring fundraiser. The students can't wait to silly-string me in the coming days! Thank you for all the ways you continue to support our school.
As the end of this school year is quickly approaching, we are beginning to plan for next year. If you have any information you would like to share as we start considering class placement for students, please contact me by email at lmaslyk@wadsworthschools.org. I can also be reached by phone at 330-335-1460.
As the weather gets nicer, more students and families walk and ride bikes to school. Please remain vigilant while driving, especially during pick-up and drop-off times. If your child is riding a bike to school, please remind them to wear their helmets and WALK their bike or scooter once on school property.
Willis Wrap Up
Classroom Lessons
During the month of April we will continue to focus on our problem solving skills as well as test taking strategies, the character trait of courage and personal safety lessons. The test taking strategy lessons will be implemented and taught to our third and fourth grade students, while our problem solving/courage and personal safety lessons will be taught to the whole school k-4.
As you know, part of the character development programming that we are using is the Second Step program in your child’s classroom. The Second Step program teaches children important skills for getting along with others and doing well in school. It also helps our school be a safe and supportive place where everyone can learn. To help make our school even more safe and supportive, we are also going to use the Second Step Child Protection Unit.
In these lessons, students will learn three types of skills:
• Touching Safety. Students will learn about safe, unsafe, and unwanted touches, and rules about touching private body parts. They’ll also learn to say no to unsafe or unwanted touches, and to tell an adult if someone breaks rules about touching private body parts.
Please note that a form will be sent home prior to the Child Protection Unit if you would like your child to opt out.
Girls on The Run (GOTR)
As a reminder, sessions/practices will be held on Tuesdays/Thursdays 3:30pm-4:45pm, with the 5k being held on May 11th.
Weekender Bags
If you would like to participate and receive a weekly food bag from Feeding Medina County, please sign the permission form at the bottom of the attached letter and return to the Lincoln office.
If you have any questions or concerns at all please reach out to me.
