On Thursday, April 06, 2023, the Corinth Middle School will be hosting its 15th Career Awareness Day. Our Middle School students in Grades 6, 7 & 8 will have the opportunity to meet and greet with 4 of the following different career presenters: Meteorologist; DEC Ranger; Electrical Engineer; Software Engineer; IT – Cyber Security; Mechanical/Drafting; Welding/Assembly; Cosmetology; Attorney/Judge; Sheriff’s Department; State Trooper; Environmental Officer; Animation/Visual Effects; Journalist; Veterinarian; Dairy Farming; Physician & Nursing; Massage Therapist; EMS - Paramedics; NAVY-MARINES-National Guard.

The day will be broken down into four mini presentations @ 40 min. each. Presenters will talk about their careers and how they got there. Our students will have plenty of opportunities to ask questions. A big thank you to Mr. Chris Castrio for organizing the event and our teachers and staff helping to make this one of the students favorite days of the year.

Our free student health services program is staffed by Eileen Santoro, a certified family nurse practitioner. Eileen has worked in the emergency room and urgent care at Saratoga Hospital for almost 25 years, as well as primary care for over 10 years. She see's our students for physicals and sick visits. She is also able to prescribe medication, order x-rays and labs and meet students needs for their urgent care.

Our students have been working hard to meet their academic goals throughout the school year. Building level and state assessments provide valuable academic information to parents and educators. It also allows students to practice their test taking skills for Regents exams and placement tests for future career opportunities.

April 20th and 21st - all students in grades 5-8 will participate in the New York State ELA Assessments. Students will participate in session 1 on Thursday and session 2 on Friday.

May 3rd and 4th - all students in grades 5-8 will participate in the New York State Math Assessments. Students will participate in session 1 on Wednesday and session 2 on Thursday.

Please keep in mind the following reminders:

• Chromebooks should be fully charged the night before the assessment. Students will take their assessment online, using their chromebook
• Prior to the start of the assessment, students will be offered breakfast in their first period class
• All electronic devices must be stored in their lockers prior to the start of the assessment. This includes cell phones, smart watches, etc. If a student is found to have an electronic device in the testing area, your child's score will be invalidated and he/she will receive no score
• Testing will begin at approximately 8:30am and conclude at approximately 10:15am
• Students will resume their normal schedule at the conclusion of the exam
• Students who are absent will complete their assessment the following week

The PBIS committee is raffling off two BMX/mountain bikes on April 6th. We encourage students to turn in as many Tommie Tickets as they can! Good luck to all of our students!!!!

The district has used 3 snow days so far this year. If we need to close school again due to a weather event, the district will pivot to remote learning. Students will log into each of their classes through Google Classroom. Teachers will provide students with instruction and materials for the period. Instruction may include a combination of synchronous and asynchronous assignments. Students will not have to sign into any study hall or lunch periods.

Twice a year, I take the opportunity to meet with each grade level to discuss a number of different topics. Some of the items we recently discussed were the connection between attendance and academics, classroom and school behavior expectations. I also reminded students what DASA is and how to report student issues such as bullying and harassment.

Hello Middle Schools Families!

Just a friendly reminder that New York State requires students entering 5th, 7th, 9th, and 11th grade to have a physical examination by a licensed practitioner prior to entering the grade. When completed, please submit the examination paperwork to the health office.

In addition, New York State immunization requirements for Middle and High School students entering the following grades are as follows.

6th grade requires a Tdap which is a tetanus shot.

7th grade requires their first Meningococcal vaccine.

12th grade requires their 2nd Meningococcal vaccine.

Please submit Proof of Immunization to the Health Office prior to entering the grade. This proof is required for continued school attendance and is reported to the state yearly. Specific New York State Immunization Regulations are available on the NYSDOH website. As always, if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to connect the Health Office.

On March 9th, Corinth Faculty and Staff participated in a staff basketball game. All proceeds from the evening were donated to the Corinth Care Closet. Thank you to everyone that donated their time and resources to make this a successful event!

The CARE Committee is looking ahead to next winter and is hopeful to have a Winter Gear Donation day in the Fall. If your child is about to outgrow a gently used winter coat, snow pants or boots - consider hanging on to them until the Fall to be able to share back with our students. Stay tuned in September for more details on the Donation Day and Winter Gear donations :)

The weather is finally starting to take a turn for the better. Please remind your students to bring an appropriate jacket for outside recess.

Yearbooks may be purchased online at Balfour.com, through May 1st. Once on the Balfour site, you will find our yearbook by searching Corinth Central High School. This yearbook includes grades 5-12.
