March 5, 2025
From Ms. O's Desk
Dear Quetzal Families,
March is Women's History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the incredible contributions of women throughout history. This month, we are highlighting the impact of inspiring women and the values they embody, encouraging our students to learn from their perseverance, leadership, and dedication.
Here are a few remarkable Latina women who have made a significant impact in history:
- Gabriela Mistral (Chile) – A Nobel Prize-winning poet and educator who advocated for children's rights and education.
- Policarpa Salavarrieta (Colombia). She was a revolutionary spy and heroine of Colombia's independence movement against Spanish rule.
- Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz (Mexico) – A 17th-century scholar, writer, and advocate for women's education.
- Frida Kahlo (Mexico) – A world-renowned artist known for her powerful self-portraits and exploration of identity and resilience.
- Ellen Ochoa (United States/Mexican heritage) – The first Latina astronaut to go to space, paving the way for women in STEM fields.
We encourage our students to reflect on the values these women demonstrated and how they can apply them in their own lives.
Additionally, our teachers have finalized Trimester 2 report cards, which will be available through PowerSchool after 4:00 PM this Friday, March 7th. We remain committed to supporting our students in achieving academic excellence in both Spanish and English, as well as in all subject areas.
Lastly, please note that Friday, March 21st, is a Teacher Service Day, and students will not have school that day. Please plan accordingly.
Best regards,
Claudia Olaciregui, Principal
