Here is what’s new for Lyon County 4-H
Happy NEW 4-H Year.
October is the start of a new 4-H year, so don’t forget to re-enroll in 4-H Online before attending your next 4-H event (Club meetings included). Re-enrollment is now open on 4-H Online. If you need assistance, you can refer to this guide on re-enrollment or call the office.
Attend the new club leader webinar
What is the secret to making a thriving 4-H club? What essential ingredients do you need? Join us for the new club leader webinar to learn more about the role of a 4-H club leader and equip yourself with resources and techniques for developing your 4-H club. This 75-minute online training is open to Minnesota 4-H volunteers, potential volunteers, and youth leaders as part of our statewide volunteer development webinar program. Participants who attend one of the statewide webinars will receive a starter pack that contains helpful resources and curriculum to use in their 4-H club.
We want to feature you.
As you are working on your project growth this year don't forget to document it with pictures! We wan those pictures for the Lyon County 4-H calendar we are making for the 2024-2025 4-H year! Please email us your great photos of projects you worked on as a group, any community service projects, and fun things your 4-H club did this year.
4-H project records
4-H encompasses more than hands-on learning. It also involves sharing, comprehending, connecting, and applying. Maintaining a record of your experiences helps you reflect on them so you can share and learn from them.. Youth can receive up to three record awards at the year-end Round Up Banquet in November. Record book covers are available at the Extension Office. Call or visit us during the hours of M-W 8:00–4:30 p.m. and Th 8:00–2:30 p.m.. The Extension Office must receive all records by October 22, 2024. Record judging is scheduled for October 29, 2024 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m.
Record judges are also necessary. The work would be simplified if each club could provide at least one judge, ideally two. At your September meeting, please talk about who from your club might be willing to go.
Records can be found on our website under resources or click link below.
Fresh ideas for 4-H clubs
Explore our growing youth development curriculum library for fresh 4-H club ideas. New content is added every month to help you and the youth themselves guide learning and discovery on a range of topics. Here’s a sampling just in time for the fall season:
Themed 4-H club agendas can be used or adapted in any youth program setting. Each includes arrival and welcome activities, an educational lesson, and recreation and refreshment ideas tied to a theme. Check out our newest on origami, popcorn, mushrooms, family, clovers, spices, trades, and landfills.
30-Minute Seasonal Science is a series of nine activities that help youth in grades K-5 explore innovation through scientific experimentation and do-it-yourself crafting categorized by season.
Independent learning guides support youth in project learning, such as this Microgreens Growing Guide, Llamazing Alpaca Explorers, or our newest, Future Focus.
Pumpkin Party is a 1.5 to 2 hour experience that teaches youth grades K-5 about the lifecycle of a pumpkin through storytime, crafts, and a pumpkin growing experiment.
