PROMISE PROGRAM
Monday, October 21, 2024, was a proud moment for Washington County Schools! We witnessed something truly special as our community gathered at Virginia Highlands Community College to celebrate the launch of the Washington County Promise Program. This commitment by Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia and VHCC marks a major step forward in providing a brighter future for our students. Thanks to this incredible program, students who live in Washington County, VA, can now pursue higher education with free tuition, breaking down financial barriers and opening doors to countless opportunities. Weβre beyond excited to see the impact this will have on our students, their families, and our community as a whole. The Promise Program is a scholarship funded by Wellspring Foundation of Southwest Virginia that allows students who live in Washington County, Virginia to attend Virginia Highlands Community College for free. This opportunity is specifically available for those who will graduate from high school in 2025 through 2037 and covers tuition, fees and even up to $500 per semester for books, making college and workforce training more accessible than ever.
*If you would like to learn more about this program please click the image to visit the Promise Program Website.*
The Wellspring Foundation will be visiting VIES on Monday, November 18th to share the news with our students. Students will bring home more information on Monday.
π WSSA STACK UP WORLD CHALLENGE AND CANNED FOOD DRIVEπ
Valley Bulldogs Stacked the Bank
This past week, students in grades K-5 participated in the WSSA Stack Up! Challenge. 217 Valley students have been added to a list of students across the world stacking over a three day period. The goal was to beat last year's number of stackers over a three day period. We will know next week if we were able to beat the world record set last year of over 746,698 students stacking across the globe at one time. In conjunction with our stack up challenge, we took the opportunity to show our thankfulness and helpful spirit to begin stacking up canned food and non perishable food items for our school food pantry. With contributions from our students, families, faculty, and staff, we collected over 430 items to add to our food bank.
