Weekly News - November 10, 2023
Dear Middlebrook Families,
We are thrilled to share the exciting news that our school has been recognized as a "School of Distinction"! Out of 147 K-5 schools in the State of Connecticut, Middlebrook School has ranked 5th place for the State-Wide Accountability Report, earning an overall score of 89.3%. This prestigious designation reflects the unwavering commitment and dedication of our entire school community, including our outstanding students, passionate educators, and supportive families. It is a testament to the hard work and collaboration that happens within our school's walls every day. This recognition wouldn't have been possible without the collective effort and a shared commitment to excellence. We are incredibly proud of our students' achievements and the continuous pursuit of academic success. This honor only serves as a testament to the bright future that lies ahead for our school and the students who attend. We thank you for your ongoing support and partnership.
In other news, we conducted a very successful fire drill on Monday afternoon. As expected, the children exited the building in an orderly manner and followed all safety procedures. We are very proud of their PAWS behavior!
Have a great weekend!
Kind regards,
Ms. Ponte and Ms. Molloy

Classroom/School News
Grade 3 News
Recently 3rd graders in Mrs. Perkin's class have been working hard on creating a poster based on the different seasons in a specific North American city. In order to create these posters, students have been reading line plots, bar graphs and organizing their information by season. Each poster included information such as what season was being described, temperature range, amount of precipitation and suggestions on what to bring with you when visiting.
Grade 4 News
Fourth grade students participated in their first of three weathering and erosion labs for science. They created stream tables by mixing sand and soil to build plateaus, then added water. With each trial, more material was eroded, leaving behind, cracks, canyons, rivers, and deltas. Next, they will brainstorm and develop ways to prevent further erosion, and retest their stream tables.
Veterans Day
This month the student council members and a few fifth-grade volunteers recorded information about Veterans Day to share with the school community. All the of the photos of veterans that were shared by Middlebrook families are on the Honor Wall in our main hallway. Students were proud to share about their family members.
⭐A virtual showcase of our veterans can be found here. ⭐
Thank you to all the veterans who have served our country. We appreciate all that you have sacrificed.

We are so fortunate to have many students and staff members share their experiences with us. Thank you to Mrs. Ray, paraprofessional, for sharing her family's photograph with our school.
National School Psychology Week (NSPW) is celebrated annually during the first full week of November to recognize the important work school psychologists do to help all students thrive. This year, the week falls between November 6-10, 2023. We are so fortunate at Middlebrook School to have two amazing school psychologists, Lindsay Lee and Donna Narciso. Thank you for your hard work and dedication to our children’s well-being and academic success. We appreciate all that you do!

Fundraisers
Sneaker Drive!
Did you know that your gently worn sneakers could help Middlebrook?
Well, they can and here’s how…Our school is participating in a fundraiser where there is nothing to buy or sell; all we need is your support and your gently worn, used, or new sneakers (children's and adult's)!
Here’s how you can help:
Start in your closets at home and gather as many pairs of sneakers that you no longer want; maybe you’ve out-grown them, they’re out of style, or out of season. Every pair counts!
The sneakers that we collect will help raise money to support our program AND will help our environment by keeping sneakers out of landfills.
We will be setting up a box in the lobby soon, but start saving them now!

Humans are more likely to thrive with these three elements, so when they are missing, the stress of everyday living rises. This online session will provide an overview of how stress affects the human brain and present some family-based strategies for helping children from birth to age 12 deal with stress.
