Lothrop's Thanksgiving Feast
Thank you to all the families who joined us on Wednesday, November 20th for our Community Thanksgiving Feast! We appreciate all our Lothrop Families!
What is Happening in Music Class?
In Kindergarten music, we have started working on a special song for our Memory Tree Assembly coming up in December. We’ve also been working on our whisper, talk, shout and sing voices--when to use them and when not to use them!
First grades have been learning all about their four voices--whisper, talk, shout and sing! They know when to use them, and when not to use them! Second graders are reviewing how to read quarter notes, eighth notes and quarter rests. Both first and second graders have been learning the songs “Grateful” and “Super Turkey.”
Third graders have been finishing up their unit on learning how to read music! We will be starting recorder before you know it! Fourth graders have been learning all about percussion instruments. Both grades have begun learning the song “We’ve got the beat!”
Fifth and Sixth graders have been diligently working on their songs for the Rock Concert coming up soon. It’s hard to believe we are just a few short weeks away. We cannot wait to share our music with you!
Band Lessons for 4th, 5th and 6th Graders
We will not be having band lessons next week (Monday, 11/25 and Tuesday 11/26) due to the short week. I will be meeting with 5th and 6th grade classes during band lesson times for extra concert preparation!

Lothrop School qualified this year to participate in the USDA Fresh Fruit & Vegetable Program. This program is grant funded and provides free fresh fruits and vegetables to all students in eligible elementary schools as snacks during the school day. Lothrop students are provided with the snacks Monday-Thursday.
OVUUSD SEEKS SCHOOL BOARD MEMBER
The Otter Valley Unified Union School Board is looking for interested parties to be appointed to the Whiting representative seat on the board. The appointed school board member for the Whiting seat must be a resident of Whiting. The appointed school board member would serve through to the next election in March 2025, at which time they would be required to run and be elected to complete the remaining years of the term. Letters of Interest should be addressed to the OVUU Board and emailed to Melinda Piper at mpiper@rnesu.org. Chaperone Guidelines - Sign-up to Be a Volunteer!
It is the time of year where we begin to think about field trips. If you are planning on chaperoning a field trip or volunteering at Lothrop throughout the year, you are required to complete a background check, fingerprinting, and ID scanning through Raptor, our Supervisory Union security system. Due to the amount of time it takes to complete the full process, we are asking parents/guardians to begin the process now. Appointments for fingerprinting fill up fast and we want to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to attend field trips and take part in volunteering for school events with their students. If you are interested in chaperoning or want to check and see if the background check you completed in the past is still valid, please reach out to Sara Eddy at seddy@rnesu.org or call the office at 802-483-2242.
