Greetings & Happy New Year, Titan Family!

We hope 2025 is off to a fantastic start for you and your family! The unexpected snow days were certainly a surprise, but we hope it brought a little fun, relaxation, and joy to your week. As we settle into the new semester, we are excited for the opportunities ahead to foster learning, growth, and success for all our students.

This month, we also take time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. His unwavering commitment to leadership, service, equality, and justice continues to inspire us today. We encourage our Titan families to reflect on his contributions and find ways to incorporate his values into everyday life, from acts of kindness to meaningful service in the community.

On Monday, January 20th, we observe Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, as a time to honor the life and legacy of Dr. King. His leadership and vision for equality, justice, and unity continue to inspire us all.

We encourage our Titan families to reflect on his impactful contributions and find ways to embrace and promote kindness, service, and inclusion in our community.

The BMMS Electric and Mighty Titans of the Month are recognized for their outstanding character, leadership, and citizenship, as selected by the grade level teachers and staff at Myers MS. These students exemplify diligence by consistently completing assignments on time and demonstrating a strong effort to learn. They exhibit excellent behavior both inside and outside the classroom, showing respect and good manners towards peers and teachers alike.

The Titans of the Month embody the values of BMMS by aligning with its affirmations and demonstrating exemplary character traits such as compassion, honesty, trustworthiness, responsibility, optimism, and loyalty. Their contributions help foster a positive school environment, making them role models for their peers.

Our ELECTRIC Titans are students that are “lighting up” on their path. This would include students who have exhibited growth, mastered a new skill, and/or made great strides towards a goal.

Attention students and parents! The 2025 STAAR testing season is quickly approaching. This is an important opportunity for students to showcase their learning and progress. Remember to prepare by staying focused in class, practicing with study materials, and seeking help when needed.

Mark your calendars for this year’s STAAR testing dates:

• April 15: Reading STAAR (Grades 6, 7, and 8)
• April 22: Social Studies STAAR (8th Grade Only)
• April 23: Science STAAR (8th Grade Only)
• April 30: Math STAAR (Grades 6, 7, and 8)
• April 30: Algebra 1 EOC
• May 2: Last Day for STAAR Makeup Tests

Important Reminders for Families

• When scheduling appointments, we kindly ask that you try to avoid these dates to ensure your child can participate in testing.
• All grades will take the Reading and Math STAAR tests. In addition, 8th-grade students will also take Science and Social Studies STAAR tests.
• Ensure your child arrives at school on time with a fully charged Chromebook on testing days.
• Students may bring a snack and water bottle to keep at their desks during testing.
• For security reasons, the building will be closed to visitors on STAAR testing days.
• Cell phones are not permitted during the school day. If you need to contact your student, please call the main office at 940.369.1500, and we’ll deliver the message after testing is completed.

STOPit is the new anonymous reporting tool that has replaced SafeSchools. Please use the unique campus access code and report through one of the three ways listed below. You can also learn more about the features and how the reporting app can help you on the Denton ISD STOPit page.

You can report in three secure and anonymous ways:

• Download the STOPit app from Google Play or Apple App stores.
  • After downloading the app, enter the campus access code below in the app.

  • Search for your campus name using the "Search for Your Organization button" or by entering your campus access code in the "Enter Access Code button".

The PTA, or Parent Teacher Association, is dedicated to helping every child reach their full potential by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all students. At our campus, we offer programs that enrich classroom experiences, provide incentives for academic excellence, and support our counselors. These initiatives are funded through membership dues and fundraising efforts.

Course selection for the next school year is just around the corner at BMMS! Students will meet with counselors, Ms. Valenta and Mrs. Gauthier, during their social studies classes to make their class choices. Each grade level will have two days with the counselors to guide them through the process.

After the first day, your child will bring home their course selection card, giving you the opportunity to review and discuss their choices before they are finalized.

• January 23 & 24: Rising 9th graders (Ryan High School counselors will also be available to assist)
• January 27: Rising 9th graders (Ryan High School counselors will also be available to assist)
• January 28 & 30: Rising 8th graders
• February 3 & 4: Rising 7th graders

The Home Access Center (HAC) is a valuable tool that allows parents to view student grades, attendance, and other important information. If you or your child encounter a significant scheduling conflict, please visit the counseling website to submit a schedule change request.

The Myers Counseling Website is your go-to resource for information about our program, including details about what we do, who we are, and links to various forms, including the schedule change request form.
