Headteacher's Welcome
Dear Parents and Carers,
Everyone has been very busy at school and a number of the year groups have had some outings and enrichment which they have thoroughly enjoyed. The sports' teams have also been coming together for weekly training, ready for the start of the league season. We did particularly well last year in the football, netball leagues and Borough Sports so want to continue our winning ways.
Unsubscribing from emails
A number of parents have accidently unsubscribed from school emails so are missing important communications from school. To reinstate your email;

Drop offs for Breakfast Club
Please ensure you bring your child into the Reception area and hand them over safely to the Breakfast Club team each morning.
Phones
Please remind your child if they are walking to school that they may not use their phone onsite apart from ringing/texting their safe arrival at school. We are also happy to call home as well. All ‘walkers’ are very good at handing in their phones. Thank you for choosing a simple brick phone for your child. That is our preference for primary-aged children.
Uniform
We have updated the uniform page on the school website so families can more easily see which pieces of uniform are essential and which are not. Also, it should be clearer which pieces can be purchased from another store (generic). For example, a school jumper or cardigan and tie would be essential items whereas a fleece as an outside layer is not essential. Similarly, there is a school coat which can last for a few years and is affordably priced but children can also wear their own coat. If your child is in their winter uniform, then please can they wear their tie. After half-term all children will be expected to be in winter uniform.
The PTA have been busy sorting all the pre-loved uniform bits. Old items have been recycled and items in good condition are sorted ready for a uniform sale on Monday 21st October. Thank you to Mrs Turner who has spent a considerable amount of time laundering and sorting the uniform so beautifully.
There is new government guidance on uniforms so I will be looking at this with our governors. We do want to keep costs down for families but also want the children to be smart. We do have some children who have sensory needs and therefore require a slight adaption to uniform. We are aware of that and discuss it with families.
Lastly, there is a uniform book in Reception. If you require Uniform outside of Uniform sale times, please just fill out the book and this will be organised for you.
Tours of the school
Tours of the school and nursery continue so if you have a friend locally who is looking for a school place, please do continue to recommend us. The children are the best ambassadors of the school. We have enjoyed meeting neighbours of families at school on tours recently!
Please take a moment to see some of the highlights from the past two weeks.
Highlights of the Week

Year 4 Boys Football Tournament
Yesterday, the Year 4 boys (Jake, Bobby, Farley, Kayden, Tom, Miguel, Malachi and James) went out to Richmond and Ham Football Club to take part in the Richmond Schools football tournament. We had a really good time and we tried out best. We shot at goal lots of times but every shot we took was blocked by the good opposition and obviously the goalie! We really enjoyed supporting our team mates and also playing the positions we were put in. We had a really fun morning out and can't wait until the next one!
Wizard Maths Quiz at Hampton School
On the 1st October, four year 5 children represented Sacred Heart at a Wizard Maths competition at Hampton Boys School. There were five rounds each with ten questions to answer so it was really important that we worked as a team to find the answers. Some of the questions were quite straight forward while others were tricky, but overall, we really enjoyed the morning and thought that it was a great experience.

Year 6 Junior Citizenship
Last Thursday, we went on the train to Twickenham for our Junior Citizenship Trip. I really enjoyed the trip because it taught us what to do during emergency.
People were there from all sorts of emergency services including Ambulance service, Fire Brigade, Police and Lifeguards. I learnt lots of things and that we need to turn the plugs off and don't leave anything charging overnight to prevent risks!

Changes to the Volunteer Police Cadets (VPC) programme
Ahead of the new school year starting, we are writing to inform you of changes to the Volunteer Police
Cadets (VPC) programme, run by the Metropolitan Police Service.
The Met is committed to continuing to support the Cadet scheme, recognising how it contributes to
building trust with young people, supports recruitment and diversion, as well as having a positive
impact in communities through crime prevention and other police initiatives. There are currently 32
cadet groups across London and the scheme currently supports 4,100 cadets from the age of 8 to 18.
Changes to the scheme will see us retain all 32 groups, but instead our revised scheme will now run
for 13 to 17 year olds.
