Principal's Message
Greetings SHMS community!
We have eleven days of classes left before CAPE exams begin. While these exams are one of many measures of student growth and achievement that we should all use to measure the impact of our work, they are also an important, public-facing data point that is used to measure our school’s quality and the impact of our community of educators on student learning. Because CAPE exams are not a test that anyone can cram for the night before, our educators have worked hard this year to prepare our students for personal growth and achievement in Math, literacy, and Science.
The use of a shared writing rubric in Humanities classes, practicing Claim-Evidence-Reasoning (CER) in all classes as a structure for written and spoken explanations of ideas, ReadingPlus, the 40 Book Challenge, and daily reading intervention classes are the core of our work to support students in literacy. In Math students practice CER to explain their thinking and problem-solving, complete weekly Zearn or iReady lessons, take intervention and acceleration courses, and use the same learning platform (Desmos) in their core Math classes to prepare for CAPE exams ranging from 6th grade to Algebra I. I expect that all of our students are familiar with these learning formats and activities and hope that you will join us in keeping them focused on upholding good habits in their practice in these final days before exams begin.
If you have any questions about how your student can make any final adjustments to their work in any of the three tested subjects it is best to reach out to their teachers. Based on some other data points that we monitor I am very optimistic that our students already have what it takes to them realize personal gains that will also showcase a school that is making notable year over year gains.
Thank you for showing up for our students and for your partnership in helping them navigate to high personal achievement. We have two weeks until testing begins and three weeks left in the third term, let’s make the most of the coming days together and have a great week!
Warm regards,
Eric Fraser
Principal

Panorama Family Survey Opens Monday, February 24!
Each Spring, DC Public Schools asks our families to complete the annual DCPS Panorama Family Survey, an anonymous survey that the school system uses to collect vital feedback for DCPS as a whole, and your student(s) school leadership, about your family's experiences within the schools.
Stuart-Hobson would be very grateful if you can take approximately 10 minutes to complete the DCPS Panorama Family Survey between February 24-March 28th. You can reach the survey here: https://dcsays.dc.gov/
All responses to the survey are 100% confidential, and there is no way to tie anything you write back to you or your child. If you have children in more than one DCPS schools, the survey will allow you to complete it more than once for each of the relevant schools. Thank you for your attention to this, and for your support for Stuart-Hobson!
Athletics
2024-2025 Athletics' Participation Packet
The 2024-2025 Athletics’ Participation packet has been released. All students must complete a participation packet every school year. Additionally, the medical forms must be completed within the prior 365 days. We encourage you to have your healthcare provider complete these forms before the school year and attach them to your participation packet. If your student’s UHC has been updated recently, you are encouraged to complete the participation packet as soon as possible.
Universal Health Certificate (UHC).
Students with certain medical conditions may also need to complete an Asthma Action Plan or an Anaphylaxis Action Plan
Please note that it is not necessary to submit a new participation packet for each season. A complete packet includes the DCIAA forms filled out in their entirety along with a Universal Health Certificate that was completed within the last year. Stuart-Hobson Student Attendance
The Cluster is a strong community of families, and the PTA strengthens that community by working together to support our students and campuses. Joining the PTA is a great opportunity to learn more about our school, enrich the student experience, and meet new people. PTA dues help fund critical programs, as well as supplies for music, art, library, and athletics.
