Dates for State Testing
Each year, our 3rd-5th grade students are required to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The assessment includes 3 reading tests and 2 math tests. The students will take one test per day during the week of April 7-11. The full schedule can be viewed here.
The 5th graders are also required to take the Illinois Science Assessment (ISA). This assessment includes 3 tests and they will be given on March 24, 25 and 27. The full schedule can be viewed here.
As much as possible, please try to schedule appointments around the testing schedule.
E-learning Days
Now that winter has arrived, I want to ensure parents/guardians understand our building's e-learning plan. Attached is a letter with all the details. Once you've had a chance to read it, please email me at cfrank@sps5.org if you have any questions.
The classroom teachers have gone over the plan with the students in their homeroom. As a result, students should be able to log into Zoom and Google Classroom independently.
If/when there is severe weather in the forecast, the students will be instructed to take their iPads home so they can be prepared.
Attendance Matters Every Day!
Our goal is to have an average daily attendance rate of 95%.
Our current rate is 94.17%. We're so close!
Individual students who have 95% or better attendance during the month will be recognized over morning announcements and families will receive a notice via Class DoJo. Students will also be entered into a drawing for some fun prizes.
Certificates for Students with 95% or Better Attendance!

Resources Available!
Is your family struggling and in need of additional support? Nexus is a support program offered by the Regional Office of Education #47 for participating school districts in Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties, including Sterling Public Schools. Nexus supports the whole child/children by supporting the whole family. Through personal, respectful, and confidential interactions with a trained Family Support Staff, families create goals geared towards social-emotional needs, school readiness, and overall family well-being. The Family Support Staff connects and helps families navigate local community resources, thus creating a stronger community.
Please reach out to any office staff member to be referred to the Nexus program.
