Lincoln School in the News
Thanks again to all the families who participated in the Read-a-Thon fundraiser! Thanks for your support, we achieved our goal to raise $2500! I'd also like to thank the Sterling Schools Foundation for donating $4000 towards the cost of our Book Vending Machine. The students are beyond excited about it. The Gazette featured the ribbon cutting ceremony on the front page of the newspaper.
Our school was also featured in CGH's quarterly HealthLines publication for our district's CATCH program. CATCH stands for Coordinated Approach to Child Health. We partner with CGH and the Sterling YMCA to provide the students with lessons about eating healthy foods, getting 60 minutes of activity per day and reducing screen time.
PTO Butcher Shop Fundraiser
Thank you to all the families who purchased items from the PTO Butcher Shop fundraiser. It was an incredibly successful sale! The pick-up date is April 17th at the Butcher Shop at 3606 East Lincolnway in Sterling from 3:00-6:00 PM. Thank you for supporting the PTO!
Spring Pictures
Spring Pictures were taken at school on April 1st. Each student got their picture taken and will receive a code to view the pictures from home. The pictures will be uploaded within 7 days after they are taken. You can purchase them on the photographers website if desired.
Dates for State Testing
Each year, our 3rd-5th grade students are required to take the Illinois Assessment of Readiness (IAR). The assessment includes 3 reading tests and 2 math tests. The students will take one test per day during the week of April 7-11. The full schedule can be viewed here.
As much as possible, please try to schedule appointments around the testing schedule.
Join us for our Annual Talent Show on May 1 at 6:00 in the SHS Auditorium
March Attendance Madness!
March Madness is underway at Lincoln School and it has nothing to do with basketball and everything to do with having good attendance! The classes are involved in a 6 week round robin tournament for bragging rights (and some treats). A picture of the pools are below. The students picked their team names. Each week the class' attendance average is calculated to determine who won that week's competition. The top team from each pool will go on to compete in the championship.
Attendance Matters Every Day!
Our goal is to have an average daily attendance rate of 95%.
Our current rate is 94.07%. We're so close!
Individual students who have 95% or better attendance during the month will be recognized over morning announcements and families will receive a notice via Class DoJo. Students will also be entered into a drawing for some fun prizes.
Certificates for Students with 95% or Better Attendance!

Is your family struggling and in need of additional support? Nexus is a support program offered by the Regional Office of Education #47 for participating school districts in Lee, Ogle, and Whiteside Counties, including Sterling Public Schools. Nexus supports the whole child/children by supporting the whole family. Through personal, respectful, and confidential interactions with a trained Family Support Staff, families create goals geared towards social-emotional needs, school readiness, and overall family well-being. The Family Support Staff connects and helps families navigate local community resources, thus creating a stronger community.
Please reach out to any office staff member to be referred to the Nexus program.
