PBIS (ClassCraft)🏆
Teachers will award each student Class Craft points this year for meeting classroom and schoolwide expectations and showing Positive Attitude, Respect, Integrity, Dependability, and Excellence (PRIDE). PRIDE is our school-wide acronym for Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS).
Class Craft points will allow your student to receive multiple incentives throughout the year. Class Craft points have allowed students to qualify to participate in an ice cream social, a staff vs student flag football game, and some students will attend a Charlotte Hornets vs Milwaukee Bucks game this Friday. You, too, can award your students points when they are showing PRIDE outside of school and monitor your student's school behavior by creating a Class Craft account. Sign-up information specific to your student has been sent. Please contact your student's homeroom teacher if you have not received this information. Lastly, use the attachment to set up your account, or click on the image to receive video instructions.

If your student has missed 10-11 days thus far this school year, they are considered to be chronically absent. Partner with us today, to create a plan for your student to be present at school to ensure academic success.

6th Grade had 93.9% of students present at school.
- 7th Grade had 89.6% of students present at school.
- 8th Grade had 86.5% of students present at school.
- Total: 89.9% of students present at school. This is a 3.3% increase from last week!
Talk with Your Student about their Classes
- Ask about his/her school day.
- Learn which classes are engaging your students' interests.
- Discuss ways to increase interest in classes your student does not find engaging.
- Stay on top of your students' academic progress and attendance in the Powerschool Parent Portal

Many individuals will take time this season to reflect on what they are grateful for. Family and friends are the most obvious receivers of appreciation. But don't forget to take some time this year to express your gratitude for education. Even if you are dissatisfied with the current educational system, have you ever considered how lucky we are to have access to so much life-changing knowledge?

According to studies, Millennials give back more than previous generations, devoting a large portion of their time and energy to charitable causes. Having so many lovely things at their disposal has placed this generation in the fortunate position of being able to effortlessly aid others.

Not long ago, proximity was an important aspect of schooling. You were unlikely to have access to a school if you did not live near one. We are more linked to education than ever before. Online classes, alternative learning, charter, public, and private schools are available for those looking to develop a specific set of skills.
You Have Access to Something That Millions of People Miss Out On
People frequently take education for granted. Education has become such a natural part of life for Americans that it is almost like background noise; you don't even notice it anymore.
Millions of people throughout the world, however, are not so fortunate. Many nations regard education as a luxury rather than a basic right. People in underdeveloped nations may never get the opportunity to attend school.

This week, we are reviewing some key concepts that may have been missed early this quarter. Additionally, we are continuing teaching from Unit 3 of Open Up, the GCS district supported Math Curriculum.

Please find below the Math Content that is planned for this week in each grade level:
6th Grade Math, taught by Ms. Spears and Ms. Rudesill, will continue teaching about Unit Rates and Percentages.
7th Grade Math, taught by Mr. Lee and Ms. Scarlett will continue teaching about Proportional Relationships and Percentages from Unit 4.
8th Grade Math, taught by Ms. Clarke-Huie and Ms. Nelson, will continue teaching about Linear Relationships.
Math 1, taught by Ms. Clarke-Huie, will begin teaching about Functions.
Math 2, taught by Ms. Clarke-Huie and Dr. Cole, will begin teaching about the Rational Exponents.

ELA Curriculum Information
Reading promotes academic success, character development and creative/critical thinking skills. Helping scholars find WHAT they LIKE to read is the key. Don't know where to start? Try your local library!
The Greensboro Public Library and the High Point Public Library have partnered with Guilford County Schools (GCS) in an effort to provide students with the resources and services necessary to help support their achievement year-round.
The partnership, GOALS (Guilford’s Open Access to Libraries for Students), is rooted in the shared belief that through improved and equal access to information, reading, technology and a stronger community, students will be better positioned for lifelong learning and sustained success – our number one goal.
Through the GOALS partnership, students enrolled in GCS will be able to access library research databases and borrow digital materials such as e-books, e-audiobooks, magazines, music, and videos using their GCS student ID number.

- 10 item borrow limit (maximum of 5 electronic items)
- No overdue fines with GOALS accounts**
*All GCS students are automatically enrolled in the GOALS program and able to use their school ID number to access library services. There is an opt-out form available for parents who do not want their child to participate in the initiative.

World Kindness Day and Connections to Counseling Lessons
On 11/7 and 11/8 our scholars engaged in learning around Bullying and Kindness. Direct connections were made around previous learning from Start with Hello Week, Red Ribbon Week, Unity Day and this week's upcoming World Kindness Day.
Students learned: What is Bullying? What to do about Bullying? and What KIND are they? Students created Kindness Links on Unity Day orange paper describing in what ways they can be kind towards others and spread kindness into the world.
Counselors will be working to put up the Kindness links in grade level hallways to showcase our scholars and emphasize the need for further kindness within our school community.
