Greetings Poynter Families,

It was great seeing so many families at our Community Night last week. We are excited to see all of our students this week. As we begin a new school year, often middle school students try to show a new level of independence from their parents. Remember, that they still need your support. Here are a few quick tips to support your students (summary of this article):

• Stay Connected: Take time each day to talk to your student about how their day went. Ask how they are feeling about coming back to school.
• Help Them Make A Plan and Problem Solve: Work with your student to create a routine in the morning to start the day off right. As students encounter obstacles, help them brainstorm steps to problem solve - as opposed to solving their issues for them.
• Stay Connected With School: You're reading this newsletter - great first step! Reach out to teachers when you have questions or if there are things they should know to help support your student.

We are excited to work with you this year in helping your students achieve their dreams. If you ever have questions, don't hesitate to reach out!

9/4 - First Day For 7th Graders (School starts at 9:16)

9/5 - All Students Attend (School starts at 8:45)

9/17 - Picture Day

9/30 - No School (Staff Development Day)

• 7th Graders start on Wednesday. Students can enter the building at 8:50 and we will start with an assembly in the gym at 9:15.
• All students have school on Thursday. Students can enter the building at 8:20 and the day starts at 8:45. 8th graders will begin the day with an assembly and 7th graders start the day in their advisory classes.

Attendance is important for student success. There are times, however, that students get sick and need to stay home. Here are guidelines for when students should stay home from school. If your student needs to stay home, please report absences by calling (503) 844-1580.

Please review this list to make sure students have needed supplies. Some classes may have specific needs, but having these supplies on the first day would be a good first step. Every student will need a binder, notebook paper, and pencils. The 4 core classes typically require a spiral, college-ruled notebook.

Picture day is scheduled for September 17th.

Liberty's home football games are coming up and we want to make sure they are fun and safe for everyone to enjoy. To help ensure that, middle school students will need to be accompanied by an adult and need to be seated in the stands most of the time. Also, please keep the following at home:

• Backpacks
• Outside food & drink
• Bikes, skateboards, & scooters
