Third Grade
How many years have you been teaching?
11 years at Hamilton, 19 years total
What is your most memorable teaching moment?
My most memorable teaching moment was getting to teach my own daughter, Charlee, in preschool! I was lucky enough to be able to take a few years off and work part time in a church preschool. I taught my 3-4 year old class a modified Kindergarten curriculum which was so much fun! I am so grateful I was able to teach that group!
Who was your favorite teacher growing up?
My favorite teacher growing up was Mr. Silvus! He was my math teacher in 7th, 8th and 9th grade. He was an incredible teacher, person and mentor that truly made me want to teach!
Favorite place to shop?
My favorite place to shop would have to be Target, Elm and Iron, and Aldi! If I'm being honest though, I hate shopping so online shopping from my couch is preferred:)
Fun fact about yourself?
I was an All-American setter at Ohio Northern University! Volleyball was my life for many years!
Sarah Cost
Position at school:
Building Substitute
How many years in your field?
2nd year as a substitute
What do you enjoy most about your job?
I enjoy how everyday is an adventure! I also love getting to develop relationships with students and when I get to be a helping hand to do one on one work with those that need it. I know how much it helps the teachers and how much it helps the kiddos.
Who was your favorite teacher growing up?
My favorite teacher growing up was my high school Spanish teacher. He was my favorite because he made lessons so fun and relatable. I remember always being excited to go to class. He also was involved in many school activities and would show up at sporting events to support students. He was a teacher but also a friend and I appreciated that.
Favorite place to shop?
Barns&Noble! I would go everyday and be so happy.
Fun fact about yourself?
I'm a professionally trained archeologist and have excavated prehistoric sites here in Ohio.

Leader In Me
Personal Mission Statments
Over the past two weeks, students have been working on their personal mission statements. Personal mission statements offer purpose, vision, and direction for our life. Habit 2: Begin With the End in Mind means that we create and live by a personal mission statement. Invite your learner to share their personal mission statement. As a family, list the values and goals that are most important. Use this guide and template to create your own family mission statement.
Here is kindergartener, Owen Baker and third grader, Madison Banful with their personal mission statements!

Happy (Many!) Holidays!
The holiday season is upon us! Here in the U.S., many people celebrate important holidays such as Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year’s Day during the winter months. But did you know there are dozens and dozens of holidays celebrated around the world in the months of November, December, and January alone!? You may be familiar with Hanukkah and Kwanzaa, but around the world during this time of year, families may be celebrating Las Posadas, St. Lucia Day, Boxing Day, Yule and the Winter Solstice, Lunar New Year, Three Kings Day, Bodhi Day, Dongzhi, and Human Rights Day! This would be a great time of year to ask a librarian at your local branch for some books about these holidays, and you and your family can learn about diverse celebrations from around the world. So when you wish someone “Happy Holidays” in the next month or so, that’s a kind greeting that can reach around the world!

Mission Statement
Every Ranger, Every Reason, Every Day!
EVERY RANGER. This phrase is meant to include everyone—every student, every staff member, every graduate and every community member. All of us working together.
EVERY REASON. The primary focus of every school system is the academic achievement of all students. Our staff and, by extension, our community take on the challenge of doing even more for our students. We educate the whole child. Whatever the need, whatever the issue, whatever the REASON we are going to work together and do the best we can for each other.
EVERY DAY. Thank you to our HLSD community for making our students a priority every day, and for always pitching in to help one another
